After putting 2100 trouble free and very fun miles on the car, 2 blocks away from home on a residential street driving approx 25 mph the car motor shut off! The rest of the electronics, radio, windows, lights etc were working fine. But, turn the key on....no starter noise or engaging, ALL gauges had red lights on and weren't working. One minute before this happening all gauges read fine and temps were good. Looks like a must a have blown a fuse or something.

Please let me know if this has ever happened on any new SRT or any Gen I or II's.

Thanks

The car still looked good...on the back of a tow truck!

Welcome first year of production blues. Probably nothing. Been there with my 2001 ZO6.

Had that happen a couple times in my 97 GTS. From what I remember it was a relay switch. I got the car going by jiggling the relay a bit, had it replaced and the car worked fine.

I don't want to sound like a wiseguy but, turning the key on won't engage the starter. You need to push the START button. :p

I hate to tell you what they said..........a blown 20 amp microfuse!!! Works perfect. I had inspected them but I guess I missed one. Thanks for the info!

I had the cooling fan speed relay fail on my 99 on a road trip. It took some relay swaps to figure that out.

I then started the car, and after the engine was running, I placed the "start" relay in the cooling fan speed relay socket. Great short-term fix, and all I had to do was park the car on a slope so I could pop the clutch to start it on a roll.

Naturally, no auto parts store I could find had replacements for any Viper relays. A Neon horn relay is the same, and they had that part listed. So now I have Neon parts on my GTS.

Glad to hear it wasn't more serious! We will have to remember to carry a spare 20 amp fuse...

Chris

I have a whole different perspective on a blown fuze. To me, it 'IS' a problem. In typical engineering fashion a fuze is a safety device and is designed to be more than capable of handling all NORMAL amounts of current. The fact that one blew is of concern, especially if it happens again. You may be in for some long term electrical problems. Hopefully not, but if it happens again I would be very concerned. Lots could happen when electrical systems go bad.

Think Fire.
