I just posted this in the classifieds, and am wondering what interest there might be in a trade for a Red Viper GTS. I have a 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS.

Here is a picture what are your thoughts?

the american version 308 can be had pretty cheap these days, an even trade is unlikely but your 308 with some cash could make something happen IMO

Going to merchantville show early tomorrow. Last show there were over eight hundred cars. Four hundred trophys. Three bands DJ's big event. You should go!

These model ferraris vary in price drastically. One at a philadelphia area dealer on that other auction site is listed for fifty thousand. Mine only shows 25 thousand miles.

thats very true.....condition and records make or break, the price but the euro spec helps.....i wish you luck!!!.....in my area a nice clean 308 can be had between 27- 37k on average, i think the cash value is there for a even trade (its apple to apple in terms of value) but to get a owner out of there gts will be hard to do without some extra incentive $$$, but you may find a owner that has a few vipers and has the ferrari tickle, that would be a great scenario

I would disagree with Johnny, I think you are in the right price range on a higher mileage GTS, and I do not think the Euro spec makes a bit of difference to someone at these price levels. I hang with some Ferrari guys and no one is that particular below 50k price levels. It's a different market than the higher priced fussy guys. It is the entry level Ferrari, and if someone wants to be a Ferrari owner they will go for it.
Every one of the cars currently listed on Autotrader classics have higher mileage than yours. And almost every one is priced way above what you looking to do.

Having said that I don't know how likely it will be for someone to want to trade any Viper for a lower performance Ferrari. But having said that I also seem to remember someone wanting to do just that, let me look around a bit.

Nice, I can only imagine how much the parts are to replace something on it. And I KNOW I couldn't find anybody to service it, I can't even find anybody to service my Porsche! Just one of the advantages of living in a small town. (There's not a Tator to be found around here)

Steve, why the quick flip? I haven't even seen the car in person yet! Seems like a nice car, but I agree, going to be hard to trade for a GTS unless you can find a Viper guy with the F-car itch, like, well, you had! I guess you scratched it!

Seriously, good luck, and bring it to C&C on Saturday - I'm hoping to get there myself.

Thanks for all the feedback. From what I am seeing, the right price is low to mid thirties. Right about what I expect. I have only had this for a short while, and it is a very nice car but it is not a Viper. I have a Viper now but I would rather have two! I think I have A.A.D.D. Automotive attention deficit disorder. The only cars I have really kept interest in have been my Vipers. ( and both of my H2's) Every time I have sold one I have been right back into another. I have owned seven Corvettes and while they are nice, they are just not a Viper. Sadly neither is the Ferrari.

Sound like a sales pitch? I guess not. Maybe I'll find a dealer that wants to give me a decent trade in.

Any dealers?

Stop by the house. I'll show you the garage, Ferrari, Hemi Dart, Daytona race car... there is a lot you haven't seen yet!

not sure if you saw my second post, i kind of backpedaled a bit after some thought on value.....i think its possible and the value is there but the situation of a viper owner trading for a 308 would be rare, i'm far from a ferrari expert but I have seen what appears to be clean 308s going from pretty cheap to gen 3 money in my area
