Could be but Bruce brings up a valid point you can grab up 2nd instead of 4th easily until you've gotten enough seattime which will cause the rear wheels to lock up until you disengage the clutch..

The Viper gearbox IS tricky, and it's easy to catch the wrong gear - especially on the 2-3 shift.

HOWEVER, if you are investigating a claim, you owe it to have an analsyis done on the gearbox by an unbiased professional. Just because "not many people had it happen before", doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Most Vipers are wrecked pretty early on - because of the inexperience of the driver, and their belief that "they can handle it". Most can't.

Lets see, brand new car with lots of power, guy with experience in fast cars, but this particular car surely rates on the more powerful of the range of cars he's driven. Car goes out of control and wrecks.

Is it possible he got in over his head and needed something/someone else to blame to save face?

Naw, couldn't have been pilot error.

Went from 3rd to 2nd (missed 4th, when I first got the car) at about 65 mph. Viper goes left, drivers side front catches grass median. Slideeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. No damage!!!
I am sure his was driver error.
I learned to not tuck in my elbow when shifting!
