Uh, it\'s my cruise control indicator... (long, but fun)

So I go for an evening cruise (wife decided to sit this one out) and wound my way down to the Plaza area of Kansas City. This is a nice shopping area that I figured would be largely empty on a Sunday night. Not so. Apparently there is some sort of street music festival going on and the place was packed. As I turned into the left lane I ended up behind a horse and buggy (they have several that give rides in the area). I would have gotten in the right lane, but there was a cop parked there at the corner (trivia: This is one of the only "uncontrolled" intersections in the state - no stop signs or signals in any direction. Done for "nostalgia"). As I pull next to the cop (our windows are both open), I say, "I have been trying to get this buggy to race me for five blocks and she won't do it!" Both cops get a good chuckle and away I go.

I make a couple turns in the Plaza and as I stop to make another I hear, "Hey, what do you do for a living?" It was the same policemen, pulled up next to me. I told them I was a ******* dealer (yep, I did). They laughed some more and realized that we were blocking traffic. I suggested they pull over and we could chat more. Rather than pull off to the side, they blocked off the left lane of traffic and motioned me to pull in behind them (the right lane was open). We chatted for over a half hour and it was a riot. I told them the story of how I got the car (another plug for Woodhouse, of course). I soon had the hood open with curious pedestrians crossing over to take a look as well.

Two strange things happened during this time: In a city of almost 2,000,000 people you don't see people you know that often. As I am chatting with the policemen, a friend of mine pulls up in a horse and buggy! It was his 19th wedding anniversary and he thought I was in trouble until his wife pointed out that the cop car was in front of me and not behind. Then, I watched in awe as my car's TWIN approached from the other direction! Sure as heck, a black GTS with silver stripes went by going the other way. Even the cops were stunned, as they said mine was the first Viper they had seen in months. I knew who the guy was driving it (not a VCA member) and was surprised that he did indeed have a Viper (met him at a car show when he stopped to look at mine). That is another story and is the reason that I now want Bill to find me a blue/silver 2001 GTS.

OK, so the best part is when the cops are checking out the interior. "Is that the shift light on the steering column?" Knowing that they are referring to my Valentine One remote display, I chuckle and tell them that it is my cruise control indicator. I explain that this car is extremely easy to find wandering above the speed limits (1700 rpm at 75 mph) and that my "cruise control indicator" would let me know when the police were in attendance and that I should check my speed. They got a good chuckle out of that one and we soon parted company. As they got in their car, I told them I would watch my cruise control indicator and look for them if it ever went off! It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the impromptu car show. I sure LOVE this car!!

Chris...enjoyed your story. I often get people asking me what the little pointy things in the headlights are for, to which I reply, "It is a laser designed to erradicate small animals in my driving path." ...you ought to see some of their faces!!

Chris,

That is hilarious. U mean you are selling your car just because there is another one in town? Geesh. Why don't you have one custom painted and never worry about that again? hee hee

Norman,
I didn't see anywhere where Chris said he was selling his 2000....All he said was he's looking for a blue/silver '01!

Saw it, can't bring myself to buy it. Especially when my kids have offered to do their own custom paintwork for less...

Nah, I am not going to sell my car anytime soon. While I was disappointed to see another car exactly like mine, it wasn't the car that did it. We can discuss it over beers...
