Used Dodge Viper GTS 2001 - Inspection Inquiry

Hey guys,

I think I found one that's perfect for me, and I expect to make the purchase VERY soon, just covering my basis.

I found a dealership that does inspections about 30 minutes away, and will get it on the lift. Is there anything I should ask for specifically when requesting the inspection? A specific type of inspection? Or just let them do what they want?

Based on the seller, the car is stock except for the headers and the exhaust.

Sorry for all the questions, it's a bit hard for me to find the information I'm looking for with just relying on Google, and my offline resources are slime to none.

I checked the VIN on mopar and nicb.org, nothing negative came up. I was thinking of getting the carfax after the inspection since the inspection should reveal anything I should know of anyways, but it doesn't hurt to be safe.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Gen2s were pretty straight forward, so in terms
of an inspection, and qualified shop should be able to
give you a heads up on anything obvious. On a presumed
clean car, some of the things I would look for are tire
dates (tread depth is irrelevant on soft compound tires,)
tires over 5yrs old would be mandatory replacements in
my book. The miles are a little low for my taste, but at
least it looks like it was driven - have them visually
inspect the soft components for cracks. Vipers that sit
for extended periods develop drying rubbers/plastics that
can be pricey now to repair. Cognac was at the time THE
best leather available, but the steering wheel and shift knob
had a tendency to show wear - it doesnt affect the car in
any way, but they too are difficult to replace now.

The only other thing i can think of is the frame recall - make
sure it was done and done CORRECTLY. Good luck, i love that
colour combo and 01s were a desirable year - if the car speaks
to you, then i cant imagine youll be disappointed. If this is your
first Viper, take you time learning it before showing off. Gen1-4s
have a real nasty habit of breaking loose without warning (we
call it a Snake Bite.) Lots of newbies have started their owner
ship in a ditch because they wanted to drop the throttle and
see what happens.

Great color combination but I would absolutely have a Viper specialist perform the inspection. If that is a Louisiana car I would be major league worried about frame/rust.

Solid point now that you bring it up, with all the floodings...hmm...

Malik, I love your enthusiasm but I suggest you slow down and be patient. Lots of swiss-cheese frames on otherwise great looking cars. Hopefully the one you have identified is the rare cream puff.
