With the announcement of a $85,000.00 new 2015 Viper to hit the market, what do you think your old Viper will be worth now ? 15.000.00 Less. So a GEN I will be lucky to get 25k GEN II & III in the 35s to 40's maybe, sell it now before it's to late.

I doubt this will affect the already rock bottom prices of GEN1+2's. Many have been wrecked and they are getting scarcer every year. There's probably less than 4000 GEN1's left and 6000 GEN2's left in existence. There were more Gallardos made than that.

At a premium price value of 5 bucks in a strong economy with all other Viper prices being normal,
the dramatic downfall of the value of Vipers drops mine to less than 30 cents now. :(

Monetarily, this has been the stupidest thing I ever bought. :crazy2:

......but it sure has been fun. :drive:

$40-50k is not bad coin for a soon to be 20 year old 96 GTS.

Same here with my 03 Allan. These are crazy stupid prices for a Gen 5, but the price (cash) differential is the same.

I think the Gen I and II's will hold their value pretty well, especially if its a rare color combo. Not so sure about gen III and IV's. I finally got to drive a G5 a few weeks ago and it was incredible. Can't believe so much negative stuff around it - it truly is an amazing driving experience. I had a Gen II RT/10 for a few years and I loved it, but the G5 is in a completely different ball game. 2013 G5's will be in the 60s-70s very soon - it's great for new buyers...i hope to pick one up in the next 6 months.

The people who buy the used Gen I and Gen II Vipers are generally not the same people who would buy a Gen V. They want something far more primitive and basic than a Gen III, IV or V and are not willing to shell out the new base price of $84,995 which does not include tax, title, license, delivery and gas guzzler tax. Wth a destination charge of $1995 and a gas guzzler tax of $2600, the base price goes up to $89,590. Then you add on sales or use tax and title, tag and registration fees.

Bottom line. I do not think you have anyhting to worry about.

As soon as the 96 turns twenty...according to my insurance agent...I'm gonna be paying about $350 a year for my insurance. I like that kind of $hit.

My car turned 15 this January and I reap the benefit of lower insurance cost. In my province, [ BC ] government insurance endorse collector status for 15 yrs old cars of any make as long as total production doesn't exceed 1500 units. In 99, less than 1500 Vipers were made. Collector insurance can be obtained after 25 yrs for any make as long as they're in good condition. I applied for collector status last year with pictures submitted, and got my plate in January. Went from $ 2050 to $700 a year with full coverage. Max value is set to $40K but additional coverage can be purchased from Hagerty or others in case the car would increase in value in the future. I don't really care about re-sale value in the future because am not interested selling the car. Bought the car purely for driving pleasure not for keeping a trailer queen in the garage.

Just curious is there insurance out there to cover if something breaks on the car and you can't source a part? For example, you crack your hood but they don't make it anymore = total right? So would it be the same if say you hit something and crushed the computer and couldn't find one?

I agree with this. They are getting more scare by the day when one goes to the salvage yard....

Yup, even Gen4s are getting good trade-ins on the Gen5, so I'm not sure this hurts any previous Gen, and I don't think it hurts even Gen 5 in the long run.

I love that, my Gen 2 is worth close to what I paid for it (not inflation adjusted of course). Compare that to the absolute shellacking I took when I traded my H2 for the SRT Jeep 2 weeks ago, and that's amazing...
