Might try a metal polish and be VERY careful around the red stuff (like that's an easy thing to do....)

If everything else fails try this....Tape around the letters to protect the rocker covers. Start with 400 grid wet sanding and finish with 600 grid, mount snading paper on a flat piece of wood, and sand it gently. Protect the final shine with oil base product. Good luck and report back.

Lay down masking tape around the raised letters and then use an abrasive scotch pad

All the shining in the world will only last for weeks, sorry but thats a fact. You see this evil magnesium oxidizes from within the metal, not from the outside inward.

You can seal it with whatever but it will return to gray.

I tried to clean mine up, I masked off the VC and used 600 grit and made a great mirror polish, looked absolutely fantastic. I kept it clean and tried several things to keep the VC's nice, NOTHING worked.

I was even told by a metal polisher that it could be clear coated and may last several months but it would have to be repeated and re-coated continually.

MOJO, if you could channel your resources into making an aluminum/chromed VC for the snake that was reasonably priced you'd make money.

Maybe some ultra fine sandpaper on a nice hard sanding block would spiff them up nice...

I shine mine up every 1-2 months with very high grit wet/dry paper and block, top off with WD40 and am very happy. Takes 5 minutes.

I have used my Dremel with a felt drum and some metal polish. It's a good idea to put paper around for the slinging that will occur. Then some glass cleaner and a towell will removed the residue around the letters.

It looks great for a while at least.
