Venom Rear spoiler help

Hi, I bought myself one of Hennessey's awesome Venom spoilers for my 01 GTS. Bolts hanging out bottom are 6" long. No instructions so I have no idea where to drill the holes in the body to fit the spoiler. Apparently the bolts are attached inside the spoiler so I have no way to set the spoiler on car and mark where to drill the holes.

Can someone with a GTS Venom please give me measurements for the holes, finished location of the spoiler or instructions so that I can get this great looking spoiler onto my car? Please?

I built a Roe Racing front spoiler into my car and hope that Venom spoiler will balance that out as well.

Make a template; get a piece of cardboard the length of the spoiler. Then set the spoiler on the cardboard or paper for that matter. Once lined up on the template, trace the bolts. Now you can set the template on the car and mold it to the body. Now using masking tape, tape the template on the car where it aligns up properly. Once that’s done for a double check, set the spoiler on the cardboard to get an idea as to how it will look. If you’re happy with your work, mark the location for the holes, remove the cardboard template, then put masking tape over the holes (prevents paint chipping) ensure the inner molding is removed from the trunk and your ready to drill.. I hope this helps

I didn't install mine (it was on there when I bought the car) so I don't have any advise on mounting it but here are a couple pics of the location of the wing on the car

I think mine sits back farther than bolt's

it also looks like the installer used silicone to seal the nuts and bolts on the inside of the trunk
mine does not leak a drop

I can't believe hennessey doesn't provide any instructions in the kit... oh, wait, its hennessey, yeah I can believe it

I guess I'll go out on a limb and be the first to say (in this thread) that I think the GTS is best left alone body styling-wise. Dodge got it perfect save for the HUGE wheel openings. IMO a wing (unless needed for downforce on a track car) is not the choice on the Viper.

Again this is my opinion and doesn't really mean crap.

The cardboard idea is pretty good except for the fact that when you curve it over the car the distance between the bolt tracings will shorten to a degree. If the studs are able to be removed from the wing then you could lay it over the fenders and trace the shape of the stands on some masking tape. This will give you a better idea of the distance between the holes.

Also you could try some silly puddy or something similar and let the bolts "imprint" their locations into the puddy.

That Hennessey wing is just butt ugly.

I wouldn't put that on any car even if I was paid to do so.

I'd sell it and get an autoform wing.

As you can see I'm not a fan of anything that Hennessey has ever produced.

Thanks for suggesting the Autoform, but it looks like a racing wing (but not as hitech as an ACR racing wing). The Venom spoiler is Carbon Fiber and unbelievably lightweight. Autoform wing is too big and would push too hard unbalancing the Roe on the front so the Venom is perfect. The Venom also won't screw up my gas mileage at lower highway speeds like an autoform would.

I really don't like many spoilers and the GTS is about perfect. The Venom spoiler does make the GTS look a little nicer because it blends into the bodylines of the car and is reminiscent of the OLD WING cars (Daytona 500s) that won so many races, like the Hennessey Venom cars did before 2000.

The bolts hanging out of the spoiler are about 6" long and non-removable. The spoiler 'feet' are compound curves and cardboard won't 'cut it' for measuring. Being a Viper and a gts I want to KNOW where the holes belong before touching the car with a drill.

BTW, what is the Roe front spoiler?

It's actually sort of a scoop under the nose. It draws air that would go under the car causing lift. When all that high pressure air comes up right behind the radiator it causes high pressure BEHIND the rad slowing cooling airflow. The Roe duct increases the airflow in front of the rad also pressurizing my intake box with cold air further increasing hp. All good, but it does remove air from under the car by allowing it up into the nose instead of under the car. I painted the scratches in the picture before setting the car on the ground.

Sorry for the confusion. In the pic you can see the panel that blocks undercar air front the front from going into the engine compartment until the engine oilpan. The hole in the nose also has braces and the original ducting reshaped to direct airflow up to the rads and airbox.

I mistakenly called it a spoiler because that's one of the primary functions.

I do not knock off any products, all of mine are pretty damn original, I do make some reproduction stuff of things that are discontinued, like RT/10 Mopar wings, but if you want knock off crap there are others out there with no shame like Elite that seem think that they can capitalize on others hard work and originality.

As ofr the Hennessey wing I thought yours looked more like this one:

IF yours is a hennessey, then there is obviously 2 styles , one that reaches all the way to the back of the car and the one like on the red car earlier in this post, Aesthetically, the red one looks better, the one you have is too much. I have 2 of these wings in my garage that I took on trade on some of my Race wings that are like the red pic above as well.

As long as you are happy with teh look of your wing that is all that is important, but keep in mind that when Hennessey himself want to test his cars at high speed the first thing that comes off is that wing as it is a drag, not an aero device, it is for "looks" only.

I am sure that you could call John and buy an install template from him, it should only cost a few grand

Mine looks like the first post, the wing doesn't come as far back....perhaps there are different mounting locations or two different H-style wings.

Ted, you may be done with this project by now (I've been out of town for a while); if you need photos or measurements I might could help.

I wonder if the mounting holes will develop stress cracks over time. Is there any type of reinforcement under the bolts?

Yes they do. You can see the stress cracks in mine on the lower left of the pic above. Not at the holes, in the rear quarter. Never happened until I hit tracks where there were longer straights allowing reasonably high speeds (160+). I reckon the good news is that the stress cracks prove the thing is working (or at least absorbing some higher forces). The car does feel more stable than others I've driven when you really get cookin.....could be alot of things but it could be the wing, at least in part......

hey ted,

if you have three people, you can put this on without a template and everything. now i didn't put a spoiler on my viper, but did on my nissan 300 zx years ago.

what i did, , put a dab of paint, or anything that will mark when you touch it to the surface, on the bottom of the bolts that stick out, then you or someone else stand back and look at where you think the spoiler should sit, from all angles, then lightly let the bolts tap the car leaving the trace of paint where you will need to drill. i did this years ago, but it was very simple.

if the paint, points do not look good after you have tapped them on the car just wipe off and try again. you can measure the points for a little while to make sure they are in the best spot (centered) before you drill..that is how i did it and it only took me a few minutes to do the entire application!!!

just some ideas to add to that
put some masking tape on the fenders incase your "friends" accidentally drop it on the car and so you can make reference points as to where you want them to set it
also measure all the paint spots so that they are all the same distant from a set point and centered before you start to drill
