There are enough Corvettes available that a lot of times they end up being owned by folks who are not really "car people" and own one for what they think is a staus symbol.

Vette owners vary just as Viper owners vary, behavior wise.

Our So Cal Viper Club was just invited to an Auto Cross by the Palm Springs Corvette Club. The competition was set up with our 5 fastest drivers competing with their 5 fastest at their home track, i.e. they set it up. The proceeds went to charity.

We happened to be faster that day, but frankly, this event was a blast, well organized and fun for all. We all went to dinner together as a group after the event and the headline from the Vette guys was "these Viper guys are car enthusiasts just like us" ..... and most of us are.

One of the things we should keep in mind is that we car enthusiasts are becoming a smaller and smaller group. I hope our kids have some of the incredible choices we now enjoy.

Hope you all vote this fall.

I think a lot of it comes down to age. Most of the ones that snub my thumbs up or wave (I do regardless of mfr, I appreciate them all) seem to be the younger generation (s)...To me the 40+ owner gets 'it'..30 somethings maybe....younger and you can forget about it.

Even when I had my Vette, last year, the " Vette wave "was rare to be returned by other Vette's.
Unlike years ago it was way more prevalent......
Ditto the " Harley" wave, much less common than 20 years ago....
I think people are simply less friendly and into themselves -

Yes. Agree. The younger they are the more they seem to think they have to prove to be real men.

It sure seems like every time I drive my Viper somebody has to come up along side of me and attempt to goad me into street racing. It gets annoying. On the other hand, I'm 51. Only a ***** would expect a 51-year-old to street race. So I'm kinda starting to take it as a compliment that I must look 20-something. Which also explains why chicks still dig me.

My wife own's a C6....Whenever I drive it, the other vette owners seem very friendly and wave to me.......

When I'm driving the Viper around, I've been waived at/thumbs up all the time, complimented at red lights by Vette owners all the time......Don't ever get to waive (very rare occasion) back when I see another Viper. (Been a few times the past year or so, (I think 3 times this year to be exact) .......and 100% of the time we waived at each other.

I get a lot of thumbs up from modern-chargers and challengers ---Love the Mopar respect.

Note: Haven't got too many waives from the Porsche's though:) LOL

It's all about who's behind the wheel.

I recall a few occasions: a wave from a Gallardo, a thumbs up through the sunroof of a 911 Turbo, a thumbs up and wave from a modded C4 Vette after a little run from a stoplight, and today a thumbs up from an MP4-12C.

But I also recall being snubbed by an SLS, GT-R, and couple Boxsters. I even got snubbed by a Gen IV once! :omg: Actually, I think he just didn't notice me, too busy cruising along in the other direction. :drive:

And I'm sure I've done the same thing to other people by accident. So I don't take it personally.

I still have the '81 Charcoal Vette and even in that only sometimes get waves from Vette guys. It really depends on the the level of enthusiam. I see many people driving Vettes who are not enthusiasts and don't know about the "wave". That also holds true for other brands. Viper owners get it.

Even when I pull next to a Vette at a stop light, they are suddenly so threatened, they don't say hi, or make eye contact, but need to prove their car is bad ass.. ?

Well, I can empathize with them there. They no doubt get plenty of dorks trying to goad them into a street race, just like we do. It gets old.

Elitist come from all back round. I've met more than a few pretentious viper owners. I myself can appreciate all cars for what they are.

Most Vettes around here will wave or make positive comments at red lights. It's the Porsche ***** who think they own the road. After repeatedly being shunned, I won't acknowledge any of them unless they wave first.

I agree, Porsche drivers are the worst.
I attribute it to the fact they don't actually see us approaching as they are looking in their mirrors at themselves.

Here in Norcal, the Viper is actually very popular (contrary to popular belief) especially in Berkeley! I have experienced plenty of cellphone cams, friendly waves/thumbs up, horn honks, and lots of acknowledgement from Vette owners. I have twice come back, only to find boob prints on the driver side window. :2tu:

I find that eye contact and a friendly expression are often key. From time to time, young Vette owners try to challenge, but I always give them the "naw" head shake and compliment their cars at the lights (make them feel good). I have always liked the Corvette, so its easy. Most people driving nice cars of any make seem to appreciate the Viper. Most BMW drivers are a bit challenged, but thats a story for another thread... Like with most of humanity, they are "like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get..." :drive:

Who is that? Blk1, is that you? :rolaugh:

Most of my buds at DC are real car guys and enthusiasts, and they were happy I bought a Viper. I do love em.
My beef is with the teens and nuts that own a Vette without understanding car camaraderie.

I agree. I've been on DC for over 6 years and have met a few other members at rallys in Arkansas. There are some jerks there like there are everywhere in life. So far, I've not either dealt with on here or met through here anyone that I would put in that catagory. :D Art

Chicks dig me too, Chuck. I think it is because I wear Spongebob underwear--gets em everytime.

Wow, that's the same thing here. Vette guys are usually real great, Porsche guys seem to be pricks.

I usually drive it when Im feeling extremely prickly. But even then, I'd wave to a Vette or viper driver.

As other have stated every make/model vehicle has their fair share. For me here in CT, it's not the Vettes, Porsches or BMW's they generally acknowledge the Viper....but it's the Honda rice. I don't know why but these little Hondas love to tailgate, or pull up at a light and rev their lawnmower engine and push my buttons. I don't bother with them....what's the point? I just can't see myself getting a ticket for racing let alone racing one. "Yeah Officer...I know this is a 630+ HP Viper but I just had to go up against that 180HP Accord, you know? He was disrespectful." Um, no thanks.
