Wife wants me to sell one because my daughters sweet 16 is coming and she wants to get her a new BMW..I say heck no she can drive the silver van!!!!!

If one must go it will be the 91 nsx..not my 2003 viper..But man does the nsx look and drive sweet..

It is honestly just easier to drive "fun" than the Viper..two fingered quick lane change at 90 mph in the nsx no problem..im sure the Viper can do it to but it dosent instill the same confidance to an amature like me..

2990 pounds verses 3380 pounds and the engine in the back is probally why I feel this way..But of course the Viper just moves out when the gas is even lightly tapped..

But if one must go it's the nsx..Viper just has that true exoticness about it..While the nsx is awesome but will get a good run from a 370Z on a drag strip or road course..only thing touching a viper on a drag strip or road course is 75K and up cars..And usually they are more like 100K plus

More than likely Ill have them both for another year till my wife twist my arm and ripps it off and beats me with it..Until then I can handle the pain...

Twister, from my experience with new drivers, my suggestion would be to buy your daughter a large, slow, safe car for the 1st one. Not to wish any bad luck, but new drivers tend to dent em up. Insurance will be cheaper too.

Yeah....... Get her a ****** for the first year or two. I bought my daughter a nice new mini cooper when she turned 16 and she crashed it twice in the first year.

I've got to second that. My first car was a 1983 Ford Fairmont Futura. I beat it into submission within a year and continued to do that for quite a while. The girls weren't much better on their cars either.

I 2nd that. In my time working the road, i've very rarely encountered a teen, much less a 16 year old, that was mentally ready for the responsibilities of driving. Also, unless you raised her on the track, her skillset is ZERO. Get her a nice slow, underpowered '******' and let her take baby steps.

She got a little scratch on her left arm where the air bag hit her as it deployed. That's pretty much it. Best money I ever spent on a car.

I personally want to find my daughter a yellow SRT4 neon..Good gas milage and a car I can have fun in if I want as well..

As far as my garage...I have only a small 4 bedroom 2000 square foot home (youd be amazed how expensive hawaii is)

my back yard has a wall around it and the exit gates are two narrow for my goKarts to go through..So I keep them in the garage..As well my weight set is pretty huge and would take up a good deal of space in my small 2000 foot home..

But the most important reason my cars are always out side (and covered) is because I have 4 children from 7-16 years old and I sometimes take foster children (maybe 1 every few years) but never the less at any given time I had 5 young kids all running through the house and they were destroying the cars in the garage with statches and small dents here and there..

So the cars were actually safer out side then inside if that makes any sense as far as blemishes..

This nsx is a very fun car..But if one will go I assure you it will be the nsx..To who ever said how Dare you for compareing an nsx to a viper..belieave it or not they are both special in their own ways and most people for what ever reason prefer the nsx..

kinda blows my mind as I much prefer the viper but it is what it is...i suppose it's because the nsx is semi classic while for now they are still makeing the viper???? honestly I dont know.

When i was 16 I got a 98 Camaro SS. 320 hp rwd. Had it for two and a half years now, never been in an accident, never got a ticket. Don't assume 16 year olds are going to be bad drivers. Get her the BMW, but get it used not new, save some money that way.

my fisrt car was a 1986 blue ford ****** station wagon...

But we are up to our witts end in fixing used vehicles..

nsx..replaced engine/clutch/timing belt this year..12K

viper..replaced clutch/slave/window regulators this year ...1K becuase most was covered under warranty

Nissan quest..timing belt this year...4K

Dodge ram is in the shop right now but luckily still 6 months warranty remaining

So the move for a new car has a lot to do with warranty ect...Honestly Ive wrecked more than my share of cars and each time insurance fixes it or cuts me a check and I buy somthing else I want..

But when you dont have warranty and you have to pay 4K to fix somthing on a car that is only worth 10K..that ***** and ive been their a few times..

i also had a 2001 lincoln navigator up to about 6 months ago..had the thing for 8 years and the timing belt went bad and shut down right on the freeway at 60 mph..luckily my wife was able to coast to safety..

We were estimated 6-7K to put in a new engine ect. the car was worth maybe 9K..I donated it as a tax right off..

so i defiently agree with you guys on the first car being a ****** but buying new also has it's advantages...maybe a 2008 or 2009 would still have some warranty????

I really wonder why parents are so compelled to buy their kids cars? I believe that if these teens would get a job, work hard, save money and then buy a car then they will be more appreciative of the car that they bought with their own hard earned money.

Seems like there's a whole different standard these days... My teenage daughters have friends with parents that buy them new BMWs and Mercedes for a first car. Then they auto deposit $700-$1,000 a month into an account and give them a debit card. They get them the latest phones, computers and buy them all designer clothes on top of the money they put in their accounts.. Bet we have some folks here doing that ?

I have often wondered the same thing. I got my first job at 14 and saved up to buy a 97 Neon when I was 16. My parents never paid for gas, insurance, or car repairs. And I respected that car 10x more than if someone had given it to me. Now, 8 years later and I have still never been in an accident (knock on wood).
