So far, so good! Interest is high and I hope it continues to grow. A few important notes thus far:

1. This is a NON-PROFIT deal. There will not be a single penny earned by me, the local VCA, or the national VCA. Nada. You are donating your photos, I am donating my time, and a couple others have offered to donate their Photoshop skills (mine are decent, but not spectacular). For those that order the actual calendars, you will be paying the cost of the calendar to the calendar company. I will simply coordinate everything so that it goes smoothly for all. Right now the plan is for a 11" x 14" calendar for under $20 a pop and no set up fees. Not bad for a calendar with YOUR car prominently featured!

2. If you submit a photo, YOUR PICTURE WILL BE PUBLISHED. Mind you, I cannot account for the quality of the print, especially if you are using a smaller file size than recommended. In addition, I am working with another member to add captions to each photo. When you send your photo, please include the information you would like included such as name, year of car, modifications, dyno numbers, or whatever. I don't know what will be included (name of owner and year of car at the very least), but feel free to include what you would like to see. Just remember that many others will be seeing it as well.

3. The best way to get your picture in is to E-MAIL IT DIRECTLY TO ME or include a link to the full-size photo. Neil was kind enough to get me Nadine's pictures, Jon sent me 3,865 copies of his photo (and awesome work on one of mine), and I received a few others as well. For those that just said "use my avatar", realize that the avatar link may not be the biggest or best example of that picture. Many were reduced to fit on a single page. Be sure to check that you don't have a larger version on your PC. I would encourage you to send the biggest and best example you have. Don't worry about file size - I have cable!

4. My goal is to get at least 12-20 high quality photos for the first calendar runs. I will then post "thumbnails" with corresponding numbers (it will be a link to a page I will set up). For those that wish to order calendars, you can send me an e-mail with the twelve pictures (by number) you would like on your calendar. You can even specify the months you want for each picture if you wish. There promises to be some great shots available, perhaps with a surprise or two thrown in!

Please continue to let me know your interest. If you want your Viper picture featured, either e-mail it to me or send me the link to it on the web. Again, this is a group effort to put together some nice calendars that we can all enjoy. I would welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks for your interest!

While I don't know that they do an 18 month calendar (I will check), I do know that you can "start" the calendar from any month. February through January of 2003, etc. If they do an 18 month calendar, that would be great! Heck, we could shoot for 23 months and cover 2/02 - 12/03... I will let you know what I find out.

The calendar company said they can turn this around in SEVEN days. Not bad! Also, the price per calendar INCLUDES shipping. This means that an 11x14" custom calendar with YOUR Viper and 11 other images of your choice will cost less than $20 TOTAL! I am impressed and hope the quality is good. Heck, for the price I am OK even if the quality is fair. I have a call in regarding a few other issues, including the possibility of an 18 month version. I will keep you posted.

I have approximately 50 "orders" in right now from around 15 people. I have about 20 owner images to choose from currently, not including a few of my own I might throw in the gallery. Remember, you will be able to choose your own image selection for your calendar - I won't do it for you unless you prefer it that way. Oh, and here is another one I shot over the weekend. I may go out and reshoot it now that it is sunny:

Don't forget to e-mail your high-res photo if you want it in your calendar. You can also mail me a regular print photo and I can scan it and send it back (I'll pay the return postage). Let me know, and thanks for your continued interest!

Here is a preliminary mockup of a calendar image, including the year and model of Viper, owner's name, and location. We are looking into permission to use the Viper logo (nonprofit) or possibly the board logo (very top left of this page). My thanks to Jon McGuire for taking a LOT of time and doing a lot of work to help put this together. His graphics skills have been great to witness firsthand!

We will be able to "tweak" the information provided. Perhaps you don't want your location listed, but want to list your mods. Maybe you want it to say "Owner:" before your name. We will get your preferences when you place your order. I hope to have a "gallery" posted on this thread later on this evening or tomorrow morning. That gallery will give you several choices for the images you want for your calendar. Stay tuned!

What are mins on resolution for images to produce decent quality? I think 1152x768 is the upper size on my digital camera.

Okay!! Looks like we are moving forward. Yes, I have received all the pictures sent to date. Indeed, here is a preliminary thumbnail sheet to give you an idea of what has been submitted thus far (may take a little time to load). When we get ready to take orders (and it will be very soon), you will choose 12 images for your calendar. The cost will be under $20 per calendar, including shipping. A few other notes:

* They cannot do an 18 month calendar. They may be able to do a "short year" calendar (11 months), but it might not be much of a price difference.

* They are happy to print the image EXACTLY as it is sent to them, which means Jon McGuire's beautiful photo work will be printed up exactly as it appears (see the example a few posts up).

* KEY NOTE: The bigger the image submitted, the better the print. There is no image that is too large. I will caution you that some of what has been submitted may not print well, especially on the larger calendar. Indeed, some of the pictures featured on the thumb sheet will be blurry in print even at full size. The print size of the actual photo will be 10x16". I suspect that we can try to "tweak" some of the photos and also add creative "frames" to get them closer to *****. Even still, some of you may wish to go with smaller calendars if the picture you submitted isn't big enough. They tell me that ideally the picture will be 300 dpi and that they will not need to stretch it at all. There are only a couple photos that meet this specification right now. Of course, many are close enough that they should look acceptable.

My plan is to work with Jon and see what these look like in the larger and smaller print versions. The next "thumbnail" sheet will note which pictures are available in the smaller calendar only. There may be a couple that drop from the sheet altogether. I will e-mail those owners affected. Remember, if you have an actual print photo (such as 35mm), I can scan it at absurd resolutions that could probably become poster sized. No charge from me - you just need to mail me the photo itself. Those photos will DEFINITELY make the cut to the larger calendar.

Please e-mail me with any questions or feel free to comment here. Thanks for the continued interest!

Chris:
I may have misunderstood just how custom this can be. Seems like you are able to do very custom. I sent you some pics, out of which I thought you would choose the best, and that pic will go on a calendar to everyone; thereby everyone getting the same calendar. And I thought that we would all be at your mercy as to who gets his/her shot on the calendar. But am I to understand that we can each choose our own custom calendar with the pics of our choice?? That sounds like a tremendous amount of work on your part and headache, for which you should recieve a free trip to VOI 7.

So which is it, the former or the later?
Thanks for your efforts,
Andrew

Andrew (et al) -

You are to understand the latter: You have COMPLETE control over which photos go in your calendar. Even those featuring your darling children. The idea behind having everybody submit photos is that many will prefer a "Viper only" calendar. While I could have a calendar made up with 12 shot of my baby, it would be more fun to have 11 other Vipers in different settings, especially since I know most of these owners in some way. Rather than have everybody e-mailing pictures to each other hodge-podge, I thought I could assist by becoming the image "library" that you could choose your photos. I have NO control over what you choose, it is entirely up to you. If you want to add a shot with your kids - go for it! Want a shot from Michael and Extreme Bikini? Ask him and I bet he may help.

The only time I will choose photos is when the buyer wants his car and doesn't care what the others are as long as they are Vipers. One member wants at least 20 of them to give away in his business and doesn't care which cars are in there (no bikini shots, however). That is when I will help in choosing. Even then, I will probably go with the top "vote getters": The plan is to have each person tell me which photos they want in their calendars (there are 20 images posted, with ten more I received last night and this morning). If forty people all say they want #1, 5, 13, 16, 19, & 20 - then I will undoubtedly use those same pictures for the "generic" calendars. Regardless, YOU choose what pictures go in your calendar and can even choose the month for each shot if you wish.

A lot of work? You betcha! Luckily I am between jobs right now...

Oh, and if anyone deserves credit for this, look no further than Jon McGuire: He is the one working his butt off on the pictures themselves to add the appropriate information and clean them up. I am just the clearinghouse. One last thing: When you send your photo to me (this goes for EVERYBODY), PLEASE include your name, year of car, and city. That appears to be the format we are using and it looks pretty darn spiffy. See the example two posts up. Thanks for your continued interest in this project!

I'm speechless and appreciative. Between jobs? Dodge should hire you on the spot....for something.
Anyway, please add as you requested for my shots:
