I tracked my 06 Coupe for 5500 miles-yes track miles and never had a problem with the car. I always checked the oil and ran 1/2 quart extra for track days.I never saw an oil pressure drop-I do look at the gauges. I ran the car dead stock except for an alignment. And yes I can drive-I race a CC in National SCCA and VRL currently. When I sold it there was 9000 mile on it and it still ran perfect. The few issues I have seen are guys who show up at the track and are 1-2 quarts low. You would be surprised at the lack of prep some people do before they go out for a track day, and then wonder why the car broke.Brian

Keep in mind, 2005-2006 cars have a slight increase in OEM protection due to the addition of 180 degree main bearings. they are by no means immune, but tend to have a slower rate of bearing decay.

Seeing a dip on the guage is usaully rare, the gauges are dampened. I can make a list of people who have had engines go south on stock oiling systems, in a variety of circumstances, from bone stock cars to supercharged cars on stickies, of all SRT-10 years. I would say your experience is an exception to the rule, and I wouldnt make a habbit out of it.

IMHO, with the cost of a true fix being a little less than 1000.00, it just isnt worth not doing it and hoping. For the down time alone from having an engine go south, not to mention the fact that your pristine car is now going to be shredded by a dealer and likely not have matching numbers any longer... it just doesnt make sense to me to take chances like that if you are going to be subjecting the car to a known set of problem-causing circumstances.

but if you'd like to meet at Buttonwillow or Willow Springs (I'll be there running with NASA on May 24 & 25), a demonstration can be arranged. Bring your supercharged car or whatever Viper you own and I'll smoke you with my NA GTS and less HP/TQ.
If its in the cards, I am more then happy to meet you there, but not becasue I am some Azzhole who likes to act like a big swinging Dick.. but because I actually enjoy tracking my car and meeting people who also like to do as such... (Make note MikeR, we have an agenda item to attend to in our quest for track time)

Sweet! Thanks for the list.... now.. do any of these run the risk of toasting our motors, due to the oil pickup issue on the stock gen 3s?

Willow Springs
Cal Speedway

These two are hard, fast, long right or left turns.
These I would not recomend before your upgrade.
The others will be fine. Run 1/2 qt. over full and go racin'

Hey Mike B,

Maybe we'll have some company from Nor Cal at the next NASA event ..... we can welcome him / them to the west.

It will be fun to see their supercharged cars heat soak, loose 100 + hp and maybe overheat at the track. That should put us close to the same power level.

It could be fun to have some competition though this guy Jon may be the most smart ass guy I've run into on this board. He could still be fun. I ran into another young guy who became a good friend this same way. I did beat up on him pretty good in driving events when we met. He's pretty good now though, hard to beat in fact.

He claims to run 10's with what car I don't know, but that 640 rwhp car won't get into the 10's here.

Maybe small man's syndrome or just young???

His responses are humerous.

See you at Willow,

Dan

It would be kind of a funny sight to watch you guys when you meet in person.

...back in the day...Jon was the kid in class photos who was set up front so he could be seen...while Dan was the guy in back bcause he was biggger than the other kids...today I think Jon has a phone book he sits on to drive his Viper, Dan I think had to buy that seat lowering kit and might have removed the visors in the car so he could see out the front window.... you can also pick him out invarious Viper event photos....usually heads and shoulders above everyone else in the pic:rolaugh:

Sounds like a weight advantage for me. :)

Now Kurtis you weigh like 100 lbs wet, and could fit in my back pocket... so S T F U you midget...

And Button willow sounds like the track we could go to, because poor mikey doesnt have the pan to play at Willow Springs... plus who the hell wants to drive that far south....

Keep me posted on a track even at Button...and Kurtis, please ****, you'd actually have to attend one of these to see that disparigee between our sizes, and since your nuts are so small they wont let you participate in a road course event so there wont be any you there !!

He ran 10's in his 06 Paxton Coupe.

Funny for not knowing him or me, you sure like to knock us. I guarantee a Paxton Viper with DLM cooler wont lose 100 hp in heat soak, Im sure you must have beeen told that by one of your local tuners. What else can you qoute, cause you sure dont seem to know much on your own. If you dont respond until Monday, Ill understand, you will probably be trying to call DC on Monday for ammunition.

Hope to pass you at the track soon, from what Ive heard from other Viper days attendees, It wont be hard. Even though you should be quicker in a track prepped car.

Cal Speedway (Roval configuration) Portion of track is high bank Nascar track. Probably not recommended.

Willow Springs could be issue through turn 8 and through turns 3-5 (Omega)

Should be no other issues at any of the other tracks.

Keep me posted on a track even at Button...

There's a private track event at Buttonwillow on June 12. There will be aboout 15-20 cars max. Usually soome Porsche, Ferraris and a Lambo or two. Should be a few Vipers (stock & race prepped as well. One run group all day. 7+ track hours. Cost is $350 PM me for more info. :)

Dan.. denial is a *****.. I'm sorry if you're so pathetic with all your bragging that you have never gotten into the 10s with all your badazz vipers.. *yawn*... rest assured I did it, and a number of Viper guys from here saw me do it.. thank for playing.. you lose again.. I'll post the slip if ya need it.

Also, I'm more then happy to meet you at a safe track for the cars, and show ya what I got.. If I win cool, if you win equally as cool, because unlike you I dont live by my car, I'm not old and past my prime and think that life somehow will make me young again if I comb back my balding white hair and throw on a set of slick rick sun glasses and be 'cool' again.. not happening...

c ya at the track.. dont cry when my smartass beats you... you'll still be cool to the other gayness you hang with..

Beginning to sound like the old Mumford Vs. Adelberg smack downs.

Believe it will be great fun when you meet up on the track. Buttonwillow is huge fun. On that track, tires make as much difference as HP.

MikeR, come on out and we'll see how your guarantee holds up.

"What else can you qoute, cause you sure dont seem to know much on your own. If you dont respond until Monday, Ill understand, you will probably be trying to call DC on Monday for ammunition."

You're right, I don't know much on my own.....take your Paxton car out during the warmer months to any CA road course and drive your car hard - then we'll talk. I tried tracking my Paxton car and this is why it now stays home on track days, oh forgot, I don't know much on my own.

I bought a GTS for the track and made some minor mods to it. It is street legal with cats, stock bottom end and passes smog. Full interior and nothing special with only 510 rwhp - Jon's got me beat here too, and the little fellow should have a weight adavantage as well, so I should be easy for both you guys to beat up on.

Let's try and pick a date for Buttonwillow. It will be fun to at least get some Nor Cal guys out to the track for some friendly competition. Over 60 Vipers this year at our last Viper Days event (BW) and I didn't see any Nor Cal guys.

10's in a Paxton car with only 640 rwhp???? That's some really good driving in a car at that low power level, or some really good slicks on a cooler night and a track at sea level with gears or both? Still good driving if you can do it consistently.

Never said I didn't get into the tens.

We did have a club member loose his engine in a 05 vert in the turn known as Riverside a year and a half ago, so add extra oil or get the swing arm pan if you plan to play. My GPS data log has my speed at about 90 mph through that turn, so it's not super fast, but it is relatively fast for a Gen III without a swing arm. I was behind this guy when he lost it - oh, forgot, I don't know much on my own.....

Hate to see another Viper go down.

See you at the track - I'll bring a friend who's also named Mike in his 03 SRT-10 convertible. He's probably your age(s). Loosers buy dinner?

Lets pick a date. If its Viper days in September thats fine by me, but I'd prefer it sooner. I also unfortunately cant do the one this month, as I will be in Vegas those very two days. If there is another event inbetween those times, let me know and we'll certainly allow you to buy us dinner. But this ******* contest is between you and I, my friend, so you beat me and I pay, I beat you then you pay. Mike and this other guy can do whatever they want... but your ALL mine...

I still cant believe you drive bad enough that you couldnt make 10s on some BFGs on 640 rwhp. Oh well, just means I'll be showing you not (own)ly how to drive around a track, but how to shift and plant the power.

BTW, you didnt say that you didnt get into the 10s but you ALSO didnt say that you did. Please provide us your awe inspiring numbers that back up your monster 900+ rwhp car... If your not in the 9's with that, then I'm even more dissapointed in ya.. (which cant get any lower really, so dont worry about that )

Lets get this date secured as I got Comb-over-old-man-wanna-be-young-but-cant-turn-back-time to whoop up on.. and my Viper is hungry !!

Jon

September is good for me as I'll be at Viper Days. We have a garage reserved as usual. If you haven't run Willow Springs yet, you should come out and run test and tune on Friday. This is one very fast track that scares the sh_t out of most Viper owners the first time they drive it.

Buttonwillow is only about 30 minutes past Willow Springs for me and the BW schedule shows NASA runs on June 7 & 8, NASA runs again June 21 and 22 and The Alfa Club runs June 28 & 29.

I can make June 21 and 22 but it will likely be hot - your super charged car won't like this ..... let me know. I should have my cool suit installed before that event.

Have you run with NASA before? If so, good. If not, they can be a bit challenging the first few times. If you are as good a "road course" driver as you say, let me know and I'll talk with their leader and vouch for you so that you can run in HPDE 3 with me, if not, they'll likely force you to run in HPDE 1 and watch you for a day or so, which is really slow and boring - you won't like it. Come to think of it, I'll call Skip or Courtney and ask them about your driving skills.

Not combing over yet ..... maybe some day.

I will plan to bring my 925 rwhp car to Viper Days in September so that a demonstration can be arranged. You won't believe how much faster it is than a 650 rwhp car.

The power gets to the ground pretty well. If I get it right, 0 - 60 happens in 3.0. The rest is a blur.

Well ****... HOW'D that call go ?? Was looking forward to hearing what Courtney has to say about her fellow Chicagoan.. or even Skip.

No matter, you'll be finding out first hand. I'm down with doing Viper Days and Test and Tune on Friday, and thats actually very sound advice, as I certainly have NO track experience on that one. (unless I get to do that track Before September) So I certainly will need to learn the line. Hopefully we can meet on that Fateful Friday in September, where I will give you a gentlemanly hand shake, honestly wishing you all the best, but then start putting the pieces together for that Nightmare *** Whoopin I will be handing you all weekend long. :D

Fast Tracks are my favorites btw, I'm a huge fan of VIR and Mid Ohio, FAR more then I was Putnam Park... So if this is fast.. all the better :) Anyone who ever road with me on track will attest that I have no fear of high speeds, I prefer them, as they open up all sorts of E Z passing opportunities.

The "NASA runs again June 21 and 22 and The Alfa Club runs June 28 & 29." have a VERY good chance of getting my attendance. Unfortunately the 7&8th I'll be back in chicago for hopefully my last time with relocation activities to Cali.

As for the 21st and 22nd being hot, they certainly cant be ANY worse then Humid June/July in Virginia at VIR.. where I have been known to close out some decent laps even in the heat. Power isnt everyhing my supposedly-non-comb-over-friend, a good driver and a properly prepared car can make up for a decent amount of power variance.

"I will plan to bring my 925 rwhp car to Viper Days in September so that a demonstration can be arranged. You won't believe how much faster it is than a 650 rwhp car."
WHY???? You think thats impresses me? Sorry.. I've seen Underground Racing's cars that have a TON more power then that, but they too dont do 10s, must like you dont... but not because they can't get into them, but becasue they blow by them into the 9s. Save the demonstration if your doing it for Mike and I... we'll surely not be impressed.

Speaking of Mike, he is trying to get his car prepped for this too, and your not answering a PM of his that he sent a few day ago. Please do respond, or please put him in contact with one who can. Rest assured this 'call-out' of yours is NOT going unanswered.

We certainly are coming...:drive:
