Simms is in my area and was just wondering if that was the same one I raced a few weeks back because not to many people in this area drive cars like that.

I know it wasn't that car in my picture, but there were 3 grabber blue GT500's at the Wexford show last weekend. Could have been one of those.

I'll call you in regard to this Friday. So far it will be my TT GTS, a TT RT/10, a TT C6, and possibly some other local vipers.

Sounds good simms, I am still suprised to how bad I beat the gt500 because I would have thought it was alot faster then it was but it did have a real bad time lauching every time we raced maybe if it had some drag radials or slicks it would have been closer. Just to let you know I will be at the pittsburgh mills mall car show tonight at 6pm.

Considering how stock C5's pull on stock GT500s. I don't give them much credit in close to stock form.

The 2010/2011 GT500 should be much more interesting considering where the current GT is. But I will wait to see how well it does before becoming concerned.

"The 2011 GT500 managed to lap the track in 2:58.5 -- a full nine seconds faster than last year's version.”

More like 7.4 seconds quicker, not 9.

"Shelby GT500 3.05.9 (LL2, 2007)"
-Car+Driver, Feb 2010, page 53.

Still impressive, faster slightly than the much vaunted mid-engined Audi R8 5.2 RSI, (huh?) slightly faster than the "mighty" Nissan GTR, (what?) and only 0.9 seconds slower than a 2007 SRT 10 Coupe.(Wha?) That's not much of a difference over a 4.1 mile circuit. Could this be true? If so, it might do about maybe 7:30-7:35 on the Ring. Doesn't seem like that simple American hunk of iron could do quite this well. How much can you expect from a solid rear axle? Let's see some results from other tests. But hey, if they've spiced up the Mustang to the point where they could be taken seriously as a real sports car, then hooray for them and the American spirit.

FJuGor comparison. A site member stated they raced a gt500 (don't remember year) in his stock gen 1 and the gt500 beat him by 1/2 to 1 full car. I forget what speed the pulls started and finished. I believe the gt500 was stock as well.

I have a 1996 RT and a 2008 GT500 convertible.... in stock form the Viper beats the GT500...with $1000 in mods....the GT500 beats the Viper.......the GT500 engine and supercharger are easily improved with minimal mods. They are both fun cars for different reasons.

So a gen1 viper and gt500 are about even then?????

Wow!

acnt wait to see how the new GT500 throws down though..I think it's gonna run low low low 12's at 120 mph..

the base GT model at 12.7 at 112 mph is just to fast for the thing to only run 12.4 at 116 again..

And a good percentage of them are modded. Around here there are tons of them with more than $1000 in mods too...

I'm willing to bet the modded ones are driven hard and often. Don't take any car for granted if you are stock but definitely not the mustangs.

I have minimal mods....CAI, flash tune, Muffler Deletes, 2.6 S/C pulley.... I am guessing I am making about 520 RWHP......... Yes many have more.... revised Heat Exchanger....3.73 gears......bigger S/C.....throttle body......the list is endless and can make big HP.....

yes it is just a matter of time before a 30K mustang will touch 1996-2002 GTS performance..

the stock mustang recently went 12.7 at 112 mph in a magazine and 109-111 mph in several others. As well a personal owner touched 115 mph in a stock auto mustang at sacremento..

Dont get me wrong a 12.7 at 112 would be a horrible time for a GTS..but I have seen reviews of GTS running 12.6 at 115 mph at the slowest..

2-3 years from now a 460HP 30K base mustang will be a force to reckon with

The new Mustangs are Fast for sure. BUT,30k will not come close to getting one. Maybe your talking about a used one in a couple years. They cost closer to 40k. Which is not chump change for a pony car. The 2011 Cobra is a Good looking fast mustang for sure. Every time I bring up to the wife about maybe getting one she starts counting how many Shelbys she sees on the road. LOTS!! vipers are RARE to see anywhere!! Still would be nice to have a 2011 Shelby on reserve though.

The Shelby GT500 Mustang is a cool car- but way too heavy to hang with a Viper.
If he has done the overdrive pulley mod and upped the boost he may get the best of you in a qtr mi. drag, but no way he will hang on a track with some turns in the mix!

considering a base mustang is a V6 i highly doubt it will EVER be a force to reckon with.
and if your talking about the GT... I think its still unlikely with the increasing safty&emmision regulations.

"EVER" may be right around the corner.... :crazy2:

The V6 Mustang is already a force to deal with for a Dodge Challenger R/T. The V6 Mustang does 0 to 60 in 5.1 seconds and the quarter mile in 13.7 at 102.0 mph. The Hemi-powered 376hp Dodge Challenger R/T isn't any quicker to 60 and is just a tenth ahead at the quarter. Moreover, the new 3.7 is nearly as quick as last year's V-8-powered GT, which put down 4.9 and 13.5 at 104.2.

I'm sure alot of GT owners feel like they they've been kicked in the balls by Ford. I'd hate to spend money on a V8 Mustang and then see that next years V6 is almost just as fast. Alot of hte mags are now doing comparisons between the GT and M3. :omg:

I do think you're right, though. With the rate manufacturers are ramping up the power, it's only a matter of time before Big Brother reels 'em back in. :(

So funny that this thread got revived today. I stopped by a local cruise last night in my 98 Silver Blue GTS and was parked in the typical newer car area and a couple pulled in with a 2011 deep blue, stripe delete GT500 that still had the temporary registration in the window. They parked a few spots down and opened the hood. The car looked nice and quite formidable but I don't like what they did with the styling in the back. I was thinking that with 550hp my basically stock GTS with just intake and exhaust would have it's hands full dealing with the Mustang.

I looked at the Mustang and looked at my car and thought... I'd still take my car, 12 years old and all, over two of those even if the GT500 is faster.

Most of the people walking around seemed to be much more drawn to my GTS and the reactions to the GTS compared to the GT500 speaks volumes.

On another note I was talking to a guy with a gorgeous custom 73 Big Block Vette... much nicer than typical. Anyway, when he realized that I had the Viper he says... "So you have a serious car too... Don't know much about Vipers other than the new Viper doesn't even compete with the new ZR1... So I mentioned that he should check out the Battle of the Supercars... and BTW the whole Nurburgring deal... bla bla bla

Then I'm sitting by my car and a couple of 60 something year old guys walk over and I overhear the one guy saying to the other that he used to work for Dodge and the Viper was never really a complete car and it was always more about the engine than anything else. So he comes over and asks me what year my car is so I told him that it was a 1998... the same year that the Viper finished first and second at the 24 hours of LeMans in the GT2 class... and BTW there's a commemorative edition and everything. bla bla bla

These cruise things are getting a bit tiresome unless there are some other Viper guys there... Geesh ! :rolaugh:

I went at one here recently in my Jeep SRT-8. UI was shocked at how slow the GT500 was off the line... and easily jumped out close t o5 cars on him. He ended up pulling me in a little towards the end but I still had him by a car. For that kind of money... I am not impressed.

You should've said you were shocked at how slow the driver got the GT500 off the line. Unless you're heavily modified.... :)

You should mudder him if you can drive...500's weight is close to 4000lbs which hurts it all over the track....braking, acceleration, corners, etc, etc.

I've seen cars with 100hp less walk by them in a highway pull...being fat ***** for cars too!:D

The 2011 is a beast. I like the exterior and the interior is really nice. It is hard to hate on that car as they are very easy and cheap to modify. One car I regret ever getting rid of was my 2003 sonic blue cobra. It was very fast, very reliable and it is hard to beat the sound of a DOHC V8 with full exhaust and a nice supercharger whine.

12.3 at 115 is weak sauce..the 2011 cobra is still slower than the 1996 viper?????

So is the 2011 C6 for that matter (though it is closer than the GT500)

i was expecting atleaste 117 mph trapps..117-120 would be nice..113-116 just anit gonna cut it when the regulat GT does 108-112 traps
