Moving from island to island here in Hawaii. ( I'm sure, not too many of you owners out there have done this). The shipping company platform ships specialty cars like a Viper, (i.e. drive car up ramp onto steel platform). I would need four tie downs and wheel blocks. Anyone know what type of tie downs would be best for holding down the weight of a Viper? Mounting points? Wheel blocks? If the year matters, my Viper is a '95. I'm sure a lot of you do this on trailers when you go to race...I'm thinking it would be similar to putting a Viper on an ocean-going barge!

Anyone out there with good advice?

Thanks!

I had mine shipped from Alaska to Washington State. Use the more expensive ratchet tie downs, use one on each corner of the frame (not suspension parts!) and crank 'em down till the suspension compresses an inch or so. Wheel chocks or blocks are up to you, I did not use any but probably good extra insurance. This worked for me. Good luck. By the way, how long is the trip, can you ride along with your car?

There are oval slots cut and reinforced in each frame corner of the car. They are specifically there for using an "r" hook along with tie down straps to tie down the car. The "r" hook can be purchased at any towing supply company, we use www.awdirect.com and I believe their part number is cc-1. Then, get 4 10K pound rated straps and you will be good to go.

old69er,

the barge takes 12 hours from Maui to Honolulu...I think I'll just take the 20 minute plane ride instead, although I am sure it would be an adventure!!!

Thanks!
