In case you hadnt seen it in the new menus, the Image Galleries are now online. This is the first showing. We are working on giving VCA Members significant storage space (over non-VCA Members). Also working on matching the system to the Forums logins - but for now people need to signup for an account. If you dont want to lose any photos during the process, you'll need to register with the same name as on here.

Check it out and let us know how it goes; we'll make improvements as we go along.

I've been working on this for a couple months, so safe to assume I'd have alot of photos uploaded. Safe to say I've had to rewrite and/or debug much of the code used in this version.

And we havent even got the interface between the two boards started!

I have, however, written two interfaces for UBBThreads in case we go in that direction. (easier to write those interfaces as all use MySQL databases, whereas UBB5 uses flat files.)

Kung, you need to read my post all the way through!

You need to signup for an account on the Picture Galleries!

This is because I still have to code the user interface between UBB and the Picture Post software. However, having modified the code extensively so far, I need people to start testing it.

Once I get the interface done, I should be able to convert without people losing images - as long as they sign up with the same userids!

I know this is a pain; but progress doesnt happen overnight and since we dont have a Q&A department; you guys get to help with testing. I dont mind volunteering my time to code; but I need some volunteers willing to use the system and help me identify any problems along the way.

Kung, what year is your car? People should post the car into the right Year/Model. They automatically appear in Members Gallery under your userid.

It is cool but there has to be a better way to upload more than 1 picture at a time. Also why do the have to be approved?

FYI Corvette Forum has no limit, you can upload 10 at one time and there is no approval.

. Approvals will make sure that only appropriate images make it into the database. No limit on uploads? Well, once we have it setup, VCA Members will have significantly higher storage space. We may be able to remove the approval process once people get used to the layout - but it also lets us steer pics into the right groups.

Right now the software we use only allows for one file at a time; however, I believe that an upgrade will fix that shortly. If not, I'll probably add it myself.

Come on guys; this is just the first showing. You cant have everything right out of the gate!

Right now on the main VCA page is the section "Communication" Sub Section " Media Area-NEW" http://viper.epikos.com/

This is where many photos and mpg files have been uploaded. It would seem this new media area is the replacement for the epikos as they are redundant. I'm hoping the mods can just move the epikos photos over rather than requiring us to re-upload all of them. Some may never get up-loaded to the new media site.

Ah! I do not know the answer to that. I will have to do some research and see if there is a way to do that.

It depends on how you get to the forums. If you go to http://www.viperclub.org and then use the "new" menus to get into the forums you will see if. If you use your bookmark to go directly to the forums, you dont see it.

Good questions! More than likely the Epikos area, or a derivative of it, may still handle the non-image files..... The new galleries only handle images, not video or audio..... We are still working out the details.

As for the approval, well, Michael was right, we are not the Corvette Forums

The Galleries are a VCA member benefit, non members will have limited file space, VCA members, significant file space. As always, we'll see how it goes and implement improvements based on your input.

1) Good idea. Will work on coding that.

2) Right now we dont have a way of knowing if someone if a member or not. Once I get the system in place, we'll be able to track VCA and non-VCA usage. As long as the content is Viper-related, it benefit us all. The server will be setup so as to not allow linking from outside out website; so people wont be able to use it as a hosting place.

Once we have the system working between the message boards and the picture gallery (so no need for multiple accounts); it will be much easier to setup rules. Right now I am trying to get the stuff I have done tested so I can continue on.

Looking good so far! We might even be able to relax the posting approvals since everyone seems to be doing a good job. (Make is more like the boards - if everyone can play nice... Mark O! :lol

Great work guys. I have two suggestions:

1) Allow all VCA members to post without the need to have them approved, until someone cross The Line. Then require that user to have approval first for 30 days or 60 days or whatever.

2) Why are we allowing non members to use our image area at all? I am 100% behind allowing them to participate and post to learn, get abused, or whatever. But there are plenty of other places they can store images on the net...
