Viper Pace car Reactions

I was in the Winston Cup garage today here in Richmond where they were preparing for Saturday's night race. I have friends on a number of teams many of whom know about my Vipers. A couple of drivers and crew chiefs said things like " I bet you liked that pace car we had down in Darlington". I , of course said yes. They were very complimentary of the car. Ricky Rudd saw my 00 GTS for the first time yesterday, and likewise was very complimentary. I am hopeful that he will sson get a chance to drive it as he did my RT. Last night, he was short on time because he was on the way to an autograph session. He qualified 9th today--not as high as hoped--gordan on the pole. Go 28. PS If you ever want to see something amazing--watch these guys change out an engine in a matter of minutes--Johnny Benson smacked the wall today, and I went in his stall and watched them take the engine out --really incredible.

As an Official Pace Car (OPC) groupie myself since 1973, I wish I had seen the Viper do NASCAR. I was doing Thunderhill. That must have been a BIG deal /rebate paid to Pontiac, as GM-Pontiac has a long-term OPC contract w/ NASCAR. I suspect that was the first non-Pontiac in several years, w/ the exception of a Monte Carlo one-shot...........

I have done ONE stint in a NASCAR Pontiac Grand Am.....no real guts, but way cool technology for lights and coms.......

GO STERLING ! GO RICKY ! I don't relate to the young-uns but I respect their skills........

You would have loved it. Normally you don't see much of the pace car in a race, but with the red flag just a few laps from the end there lots and lots of footage of the Viper leading all the WC cars around for several laps until they finally went green. Then Dodge wins its second race of the year. AWSOME!
