Where do you live? That may influence your decision on the GTS vs. RT/10 question. I have owned both and loved each one.

Definitely avoid the YELLOW cars. (whew, I'm glad I got here before SUN RA KAT <grin>) Seriously, color is a personal preference, but they're all gorgeous.

If I was purchasing now, I would avoid the '92-'95's. There have been some head gasket leaks etc. There are many post on the types of problems. Just do a search on this site. If you find a car you like you can even have someone here check it out for you, or they may even know the owner.

Type in 'newbie' on your search. This should answer most of your questions.. except that one on the best color!

I also went from a modified VR4 to a Viper. Definitely two different ends of the car spectrum.

Definitely do a search, or at least narrow your questions down. The answer to your questions depends on things like where you live and how you plan to use the Viper. Things like color choice don't matter unless you are interested in possible collector value 20 years from now.

Look here to find out the changes from year to year and also color options.

I have an RT here in the South where I can enjoy it year round.

If I had to do it all over I would have bought the GTS on the parking lot as well.

 ................. ..................

Here are just some of the facts:

Yellow cars have ABS.
Yellow cars have higher resale value and are newest of the Gen II Vipers.
Yellow cars are THE choice of color for the fastest Vipers (do a check here).
Yellow cars do not have to get a $750 upgrade on the Sean Roe Supercharger System.

Blue & White Striped cars have forged pistons. Do you know the penalty for forgery? Jail! Jail! Jail! :p

I live in Raleigh, NC. I have never actually ridden in a viper, maybe if someone in the local area has one, they would be willing to give me a ride. It is just going to be a toy, not a daily driver.

I'm in Durham, and can give you a ride, drop me a PM.

I'm in Raleigh, but my car is in the process of becoming a track only car and has no interior.

BE CAREFUL IF YOU RIDE WITH JOHN!!! He's an attorney and may attack you. jk.

1. If you had it to do all over again, which years would you buy? 1996 because it's a GENII and costs the less then newer years that don't have any more bang for the buck (unless you want ABS which is '01 up)
2. Would you go with the RT10, GTS, ACR - and what is the differences between each of them? GTS, RT is an open top, GTS closed top, ACR is a GTS with better suspension and nicer looking wheels. ACR not available in 96
3. What color would you go with, or stay away from? Lighter colors seem to have their side sills yellow from heat unless you get high flow cats.
4. Anything in particular I need to watch out for or avoid? You need to have Viper people check out any car before you buy. Tom Sessions is a good Viper tech in Wilmington that can get real mechanical.
5. Who has one for sale for a decent price? Your in luck. Henry and Janni Cone your VCA Carolinas President and VP have TWO for sale IN RALEIGH. I will email them about this post.

Both of their cars are rock solid. I tried to buy Henry's for 3 months but couldn't sell mine so decided to start cutting on it for a cage before the season started.

Raleigh rocks for Vipers. Kenny Hawkins has 3, the Cone's have 4 (YES FOUR at the moment), Stuart Goldblatt has oneJesse Reed has one, I have one, near by there are at least 5 more.
