I did a search and it appears that Viper may in fact be a nickname for the Fighting Falcon.

I copied what I wrote previously in this thread. I made an optimistic assumption about average speed in the 2nd half of the 1/2 mile (I'm sure the average is more like 130-something, not 150). I did the calculation to see what's the QUICKEST the 1/2 mile could've been, and I guessed 18 sec. So I totally believe 7 seconds for the last 1/4 mile and 19 sec total for the 1/2 mile.

Kind of disappointing that Ripley's hosed this up. Makes everything else they do kind of suspect, eh?

According to the Show, cameras of any kind were not allowed on the airfield for reasons of security I would guess since the AF prob didn't want people doing some extra footage of the base ect. They could control and edit what Ripley took.

I have it on very good source that the SRT did in fact win that race though be it very close. AND the CC blew away the jet to the half mile even with full burners on. I for one will not be watching that show anymore. The distortions in fact that they displayed on something like this is bad can you imagine what some of those other stories that truly are unbelievable have distorted in them, geez!

If the SRT did the 1st quarter mile in 11 flat, that leaves about 2 seconds for the second quarter mile stretch, in order to complete the 1/2 mile in the claimed 13 something seconds. (As someone stated earlier).

How fast would the Viper have to go to cover a quarter of a mile in 2 seconds?

If you consider that 1/4mile in 2 seconds is equivalent to 1 mile in 8 seconds, and since you know that 60 miles an hour is one mile in one minute, then you can divide 60 seconds by 8 seconds, which yields a factor of 7.5, then multiplying this by 60mph, means that the Viper would have to go 450 miles per hour to cover a quarter of a mile in 2 seconds.

(Sorry thats a little rough to follow, but it works out. Try it.)

You can work it backwards, by dividing 450 mph by 60, which yields 7.5 miles per minute. Dividing 7.5 m/min by 60 yields 0.125 miles per second, so two seconds gets you 0.25 miles, or a quarter of a mile.
