Viper wont start

04 SRT. So I am getting ready to leave. I get in the viper and start it up like normal. I was sitting there getting ready to leave. Well I had some new sandals on and my foot slipped off the clutch and car was in gear, so of course stalled the car. I put my foot back on the clutch and push the start button, nothing. I then turn off the car, take the keys out for a minute and put the key back in, turn it all the way. All of the lights come on in the car, all accessories turn on like NAV, etc. I push the start button and nada again . I figured I would ask you guys first thing before I try anything. I am going to search as I am sure there are other threads similar. I just wonder by me stalling the car, the clutch slipping what would that do to prevent it from starting? Is there a fuse I should look for? Where is the clutch soleniod located at? Thanks everyone ahead of time.

I went to check all of the fuses and they are all good from what I can tell. Parking brake of course is off. Am I missing something here??

Just a guess, since you say it happend after your foot slipped off the clutch, I would check the clutch safety switch at the pedal.

I guess I am just not good at this stuff and its hard to look under there, hard to get a good position to see anything under there. And of course they have to make it to get to the battery you need a star tool kit. I will be calling the dealership tomorrow. Time to use my warranty.

It is a real pain in the **** to get in a position to look at the clutch rod. Might try a small mirror to look up under the dash. The torx bit heads to get at the battery are also a real pain. Good luck.

So the clutch rod is pretty high up? Is it in the dash? Ugh I wish I had some good lighting, a garage, and some tools. ***** living in a condo. I am going to have to pick up a torx bit kit tomorrow at the store. Thank you Rocket and Easy to Be Green for the help.

I am going to try and disconnect the battery first. If that does not work I am just going to have the dealership worry about it.

Hi, HI-NOS (I wanted to say that).

Don't bother with buying the entire torx bit kit. Just get the one size you need. The size is a "T-30". I've been there, done that.

Have you tried to cycle the locks/alarm on, then off (with key fob remote)...then try to start it??? Can also try pushing key fob "unlock" twice...though this may be a function on Gen IV's (I'll try to locate that thread)

You can test the switch on the clutch by unplugging it, and inserting a "u" shaped wire or paperclip into the "car side" (female plug) to "jump" it...REMEMBERING that you are disabling a safety system when you do this..so use this method CAUTIOUSLY...only as a test or in a true emergency.

I did try to cycle the locks and alarm off and then on and then off again a few times. I am pretty sure I did try the unlock twice but I will try it again. Where exactly is the switch on the clutch? Now that there is light out I am going to try and locate it again. Thank you for the suggestions.

Comes off forwand end of actuator rod which lies a little to left of pedal...harder for ME to see (what I recal is the dark green connector) on a Gen III than on a Gen I or II.

You can disconnect the battery from under the hood.

Oh? I did not know this? I did disconnected the positive terminal from the jump start but that did not disconnect the battery as lights and stuff still would come on. Is there another part I need to disconnect?

<p>With the history of your foot slipping off the clutch and subsequent engine stall...I 'm hoping that you only slightly moved the sensor on the shaft which could cause your start button to stay ''dead''. You COULD try to wiggle the sensor a bit, and try start it if you cannot get to the connector to try to temporarily jump it. Of course, I may be on the wrong track !!</p>

Re-check the ASD fuse... it can blow after certain stall situations... later years of the car were equipped with 25A ASD rather than 20A of the earlier Gen III's.

And it will give all the symptoms you describe.

Are you sure that ASD kills start button on a Gen III...noting that it does not kill starter on Gen II...just injectors, coils, etc. I certainly do not see ASD on start button/starter circuit diagram. Well you didn't describe how it doesn't start. Like here's couple example: push start button and it turns over but nothing; push start button and makes weird noises but wont turn over; push start button but just won't do anything period.

What I'm thinkin is that it just don't do nothing and most likely when you slip the clutch...it broke the clutch switch and just won't do anything. If you have have a lil experience with wires all you have to do is disconnect the clutch switch wire and put a jumper wire in the harness of the plug that is NOT the clutch switch. MAKE SURE ITS IN NEUTRAL!!! try starting it that way

I push the start button and nothing happens, doesn't do anything period. I am going to try the mentioned method. Thanks

Sounds more like the theft deterrent system is active.
Close the doors.
Press lock button on remote.
Wait 30 seconds.
Press the unlock button twice.
Open the door.
Put key in the ignition.
Depress clutch pedal.
Press ignition button.
Car should start.
I had the same issue the day I picked my viper up from the dealer.

Not the alarm. I was able to get to the clutch switch. I pulled it out a little bit and some white plastic pieces fell off in my hand. It is broke. Time to take to dealership. I love warranty. Thank you everyone for pointing me in the right direction.

I'd fix it myself and get a new switch. I don't trust any dealership or take it back that no one. After getting my new tires put on got a few nicks in it also when my cat had to be replace they striped the holes to hold the side skirts in
