The sad part of it is that the car magazines will probably ignore this big news. CAr & Driver and Road & Track always diss the Viper.
For example, in the Januray '10 issue , of R&T, when they were doing a piece on "awesome" drift cars, they put the Vette and Nissan Z-car on the cover and totally left the Viper out of the article!
But that's in the past. So now it's time to celebrate.
GO SRT!!!!GO VIPER!!!!!:2tu:

The average person could read these articles and think. Big deal a dodge beat a chevy and a lexus but a ferrari or lamboghini or one of those new bugatti's could easily beat that dodge. Ironic isn't it.

yes, they are for whom was coined: "ignorance is bliss" :lmao:

That's odd.
I have a Gen3 coupe in my garage.
Is it rare? A one-off? Custom?
:D :D :D :D :D

Def not a 1-off :drive:

Ooh! You have a one off Kevan! Sweet! :yay:

Sorry sorry....my bad. Bad clarification.... :rolaugh:

Was still thinking my last post of the fact that the ACRs normally come a year or so after the coupe body is introduced and being that there was no chance to do that with the gen 3..... Never clarified that! Cmon Kevan. you should have read my posts accross many threads so you stayed with my train of thought! ;)

Yeah. I ****! Epic fail. :hitfan:

(Funny reading back I started laughing before I even read your comment. Was still reading my quote and it already hit me! :rolaugh:)

Even the Toyota boards, and Stang boards, are paying homage to the Viper- some nice compliments on some "other" boards..

One on the TOY board said something about the Vipers "giant wing" - they seem to forget the "Supra wing" azzhats.....

A good long time friend and coworker that I have worked my whole career with is a huge toyota/honda fan. His first new car was a 79 celica and he has been worshiping japanese cars since. He throws American cars under the bus every chance he gets. He was the first to tell me about the LFA when it first went public. So I'm telling him about the ring record this morning and he starts looking a bit perturbed. So he says to me... what about that car that Simon Cowell drives... you know... the fastest car in the world... I'm like... What are you you talking about so he says google it real quick. Up pops a picture of the Veyron. I'm like nope... note even in the race dude:lmao:

In true Viper tradition, and it now having been more than 24 hours since the record was broken, how do we make it go faster? LOL.

Information gleened from this ring experience will most likely go directly to those developing the next generation of Viper.

Fantastic use of production down time to gather the data for future enhancements.

From my understanding SRT is also in the process of traveling from track to track. Most likely with development engines, transmissions, electronics. All in the quest to build upon the strengths of the current model to make the next Viper even better.

Have to laugh at the excuses being offered up, especially by the Vette fan bois.
Suddenly Jim Mero, the ZR1 Ring driver who put up the 7:19 and has an extensive background as an engineer and race car driver AND has logged thousands of laps at the Ring...SUX.

He's the reason the ZR1 went so slow now....and just last week he was a God.
THIS IS INCORRECT.
Jim Mero is a helluva engineer and an excellent track driver. I've got $5 that says he's a nice guy too.
If you're a Corvette guy saying Jim *****, YOU FAIL.

(that's for the Vette guys, Jon....just to be clear)

Yeah, that was the genius who said the Viper had "excessive" torque. No amount of torque is excessive!

He also said the ACR "should" go faster, with that "wing". Well, I think the LFA "Should" go faster, cuz it costs a fortune. But it don"t. They shot their *** with a very specially designed, track-specific-tuned, the very best they could muster, the "Nurburgring Edition" to get 7:14. They've come up "short". (pun intended)

I sure hope not. I like tracking my car. Do you know how much a Carbon brake rebuild will cost?.

Yeah, typically it's a $15k option, and rotors run a solid $2k each. I'm not saying make it standard, but I think it should be an option. It's standard on the ZR1 and an option now on the Z06, not to mention Aston Martin, Ferrrari and all the other big names offer them. They may be expensive, but they definitely work!

for those of us that JonB sent the original 7:22 'Ring decals ( thanks ! again Jon) - just the 7:12 would work.. lol fabulous event!

As a totally appropriate celebration of this spectacular victory I would suggest that Jon B of Parts rack have made up some of his traditional track stickers with updated times and have Viper Magazine include them in their next edition to be sent out to VCA members.

This could then be quickly placed on our cars to "wave the flag" in the most visual manner.

" Chrysler showed yesterday that it is still one of the premier supercars in the world as it once again holds the record for the fastest street legal production car to lap the famed Nürburgring."

Ring King indeed.

Don't you just need a 1 sticker to go over the middle number? :) Congrats and thank you SRT and Tomball!!

Top Gear will test the G5 in the rain, just to make sure.

Why doesn't the Viper sell better, as great as it is? We console ourselves with "******* don"t like ******** cars", but in the end, car manufacturing is a business proposition.

I would suggest the Gen5 have OPTIONAL amenities, to appeal to the widest possible audience. Without the economy of scale, the future is bleak, for an extremely limited volume car. ("We" don't want them languishing on dealers' lots for two years, still in the wrappers. I'm sure the dealers don't) Unless they are counting on someone who, after hearing of the record lap, will suddenly become enamored with a Chrysler mini-van or Durango.

I vote ViperJon for avatar most relevant to the thread.lol

It took a few days, but I finally got on here! :) First post time!!!

I've got to say, from the outside looking in, a few people must really love the Viper and all it stands for! I mean, to have gone to these lengths to get a couple of Texas-plated dealer cars lapping a stretch of twisty tarmac behind my back garden... :rolaugh:

Absolutely top effort though, and knowing how the higher echelons of Lexus can be, I guess there are some harrowing tales of woe amongst the LF-A team. Oh to be a fly on their wall right now... :eater::eater: :eater:

Anyway, here's my favourite shot from that fateful lunchbreak I spent next to the track, in FULL res too (3888px).

I have to say, as a pro driver here I've still not driven the Viper in any of its forms! I can only imagine that 8.4ltrs and the appropriate torque with no computers puts most drivers off - cars in the same price range over here include Nissan GTRs, Porsche GT3s, the odd GT2 and of course, the Z06. All of which I've driven, none of which I'm particularly smitten by. They are a dime a dozen around the Nürburgring.

If anybody could hook me up with an email address for the team, the drivers, anything, I'd love to get an interview for my blog at bridgetogantry.com too.
