Vipers are still on top in most competitive racing segments. Today at Desoto Motorsports Park, Bradenton Dragway, Vipers proceeded to dominate the field of over 100 Bowtie products.

In a nutshell, we ran 9.77 in our BTR GTS which was the quickest time of the entire event, Lee Saunders ran 9.83 in his BTR Prepped GTS, and John Hennessey ran 9.84 in his 1000 TT/with Nitrous to round out the only 9 second cars at the event.

The closest of any GM product was somewhere in the 10.50's I believe. There were several other Vipers that trophied in their classes as well, but I can't remember all of the drivers and times so I will let them follow up with actual numbers.

The rains came shortly after time trials, so the planned "bracket racing" event of the afternoon was cancelled. Trophies were handed out for all of the fastest cars of each class. Of course, the Vipers were alone in the fastest class with no GM competition even placed with us.

There were many nice cars in attendance of ALL brands, LPE Vettes, a few Ferarri models and an Aston Martin James Bond Special was on hand to view the action.

Take Care,

Tom

J Smith,

There was a group there shooting Video of the event, but they departed when the rains came and we were unable to get their contact information. We are working with a few of the Vette tuners to get a contact number for the folks who had the starting line cameras set up, and hope to forward the information for everyone.

Way to go Tom. I am a little ashamed of my f-body brothers though....I wish that had been closer, at least to give you guys a little GM problem. What was your sixty and 1/8 time on the 9.77....very nice !!!!!!
p.s. next time you talk to Lee tell him hi from me.

Tony,

60' = 1.43
1/8 = 6.34

Lee actually had a better 60' with a 1.39!!!!!!!(I will pass on your regards)

There were some healthy GM's there, problem was that they segregated us. Modified Vipers were classed together as were Vettes/F-bodies and so forth. I was hoping for some heads up class action, but it was not to be. We had a good time anyway and the atmosphere was exciting even if rain dampend the experience in the end.

Tom

P.S. Give me a call when you are ready to drop another 5 tenths or more.

John Canal(2001 GTS)won first in the Mod 1 class with 11.92 and Gary "The Greek"(1995 GTS) got second with 12.19 with Cat back only in a Gen1. The track was less than idea(high humidity, high 60's to low 70's). But all the Vipers ran impressive times.

Was that a 12.19 in a 1995 RT/10? I thought the first GTS was in 96...

Hello,

Sil350- All stock drivetrain with the exception of Severe Duty Half Shafts that I offer on my website. Using the 3.07 Gear as well. Suspension set up and launch technique help keep these things together while providing kickin 60' times.

Hello Jay,

Hope the S/C is working well, Sean is good people! I have parts available for delivery almost immediately. Please feel free to contact me to get your parts on order.

Gerald,

I guess it ain't luck anymore at this point....I guess..LOL

Wow, I better start visiting this board more often! I was called Gary and my car became a GTS for a while :). Obviously I am Steve "The Greek" which seems to be my new nickname?

Anyway, I got second place in my class with my Gen1. I ran 12.18 @ 114.4 with a 1.82 60’ time and .549 R/T. Not too bad for a Gen1 ah?

Modifications? Street tires with a cat-back exhaust and smooth tubes and filters. That’s all! Only my 4th time on a drag strip too!

I am very excited and satisfied with the performance of the car and obviously my performance too.

Of course, let's not forget that my car is a Macedo Motorsports Racing Team (MMRT) car! http://www.macedomotorsports.com

Larry is the best tuner around and the car is running very strong! I took 2nd place and John Canal (another MMRT car – 2001 GTS) took 1st with 11.92. We were running on the Viper Modified class.

I feel that with more practice I can be on the high 11s. The day was kind of hot and I kept getting in line after each of my runs. The engine would be somewhere in the 200+ F temperature range.

The event took place at Desoto Raceway in Bradenton, FL check them out at http://www.bradentonmotorsports.com/

The cost for this event was $135.00 and the proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The weather did not hold and it started raining after 1:30PM so we never did the Bracket Races. Still, it was a very fun and satisfying event!

Steve "The Greek" is one hell of a driver, espcially on the highway at over 120. Looks like one hell of a track driver also.

way to go "De Land Snake", where are my wine coolers from the superbowl party?

Hey Tom... Sounds like "Quick" times but how fast were the cars? In other words,
what were the MPH's in the quarter? You would think MPH would be of more interest to this board than ET. Anyway, great ET times!

Jamie,

the 1000TT ran about 148 MPH which was only about 3 mph more than what we ran. Remember that the TT had (3) power adders--two turbochargers and One Nitrous system. The other two Vipers only had a nitrous system for a power adder.

I beg to differ though about the MPH thing. The 9 second zone is very difficult to break in a Viper, but a 9 second MPH (usually around 133 in most drag type chassis cars) is common place for a Viper with a few simple mods.

In a nutshell, I will take the e.t. all day long. Its kind of like the relationship between HP and Torque, Horsepower Sells, Torque wins races. Folks don't seem to care as much about torque. Those of us in the know prefer torque, thats why we make 1000 ft/lbs of torque at only 800 RWHP.

Tom

P.S. Not taking anything away from the TT, it definately had more in it.
