SRT and Team Viper, much respect on your accomplishment and a great informational Youtube video of Mr. Richard Winkles giving us some insight on the Gen V power plant! I want one in my stable now..:2tu:

A few questions if possible and thanks for doing the deed!:usa:

:The new intake, would a good comparison of the improved air flow be similar to a ported Gen 4 lower intake?

:The new cam, is there more Valve lift as well as increased intake duration?

:The new aluminum flywheel, faired better than the steel unit, how? ACR-X was mention, engineers where surprised? What type of initial testing was done?

:The new exhaust, if more free flowing than Gen 4, what changes have been done, cats, mufflers ?

:Will the new Head Gaskets be retrofittable to Gen 4 and earlier generations?

:New Engine RPM capability?

:The new rear differential, has this unit been upgrade or tweaked to improve on?

Thanks!

Toddy,

Thanks for the compliments!
· The Gen V intake has longer runners with an improved shape and entry. It will outperform a ported Gen IV manifold.
· Same lift, longer duration and acceleration.
· The aluminum flywheel dissipates heat better and does not require as much thermal mass.
· Exhaust changes include a single pass wash coat to the cats (for precious metal deposition) and a new resonator (see answer to post #9).
· The Gen V head gaskets will work on Gen III & Gen IV and would be a cooling improvement but there also some holes in the head that would need to be added and one that would need to be blocked.
· Fuel cut-off will remain at 6400 rpm.
· Same basic rear differential with 3.55:1 gears and new stud shafts and half shafts for improved serviceability and function.

Besides the NYC Auto Show and Barrett Jackson. Where can we expect to see the car reveiled to keep the spark alive till 4th qtr?

Bruce

The car will be at ALMS races later in the season, as well other events like Pebble Beach and even Le Mans (on display). We will have a full schedule in the events section on driveSRT.com and the driveSRT Facebook page.

SRT Team, why aluminum doors...easy to get door dings, why not carbon fiber? What is the width of the front and rear wheels? Perilli we need a 375 25 19 on this car.

If you spell the tire company name correctly (Pirelli).... but seriously a 375/25R19 is quite a unqiue size. The 355/30R19 won't dissappoint.

Is the engine still 510 cubic inches? I read somewhere it's now 512 but not sure if that is true...

The changes to the engine suggest that it is significantly more robust. Would it tolerate say 5 pounds of boost assuming it was from an Eaton twin screw supercharger similar to the one the ZL-1 or ZR-1 uses?

Bob Bob Bob,

640 still isn’t enough eh? How fast is fast enough? The Gen V is built to be as robust as possible but we can’t comment about a boosted application at this time. Probably safe to say you would need to reduce the compression ratio though…

Is the new car going to be shown at upcoming auto shows in different states?
If yes is Seattle Auto Show one of them? I'd love to see the car in person.

The car will be at ALMS races later in the season. We only have a few cars available to show, before production starts, so there will be a lot of regional shows that we won't be able get to (sorry). We will have a full schedule in the events section on driveSRT.com and the driveSRT Facebook page.

Q1) sorry, we can't answer questions about future product.
Q2) See above.
Q3) See above.
Q4) See above.
Q5) The production car will be equipped with Pirellis.
Q6) See above.
Q7) No. Damptronic is a superior system that provides more range between compliant ride for the street, and firm damping for the track.

How fast is fast enough? Light speed would do it. LQ.

What were the key elements that were deemed mandatory to keep the "Viper" in the Gen 5 design from the get go? Everyone has a favorite Gen and favorite attributes/elements associated with that Gen. Tell us about some hurdles example Clamshell hood.

the Gen V had many key points that were deemed important to the spirit of the car. Everyone wanted the curves back!!! An important one was the clamshell hood. The design hurdles were the hinge and hinge point, latch design and release, the hood mounted head lamps. Manufacturing the hood itself was the large challenge due to the size.

driveSRT.com is on-hand to bring you spy photos of the Viper engineering team from inside the den. Thanks for your questions, crew.

Stop by driveSRT.com over the coming months for inside information surrounding the Viper and our SRT Motorsports program. We're always looking to recruit more Viper Club members on our Facebook and Twitter pages, too.

I've hogged enough time with my questions so I'll stop now. But thank you very much for taking the time tonight (after hours and all) and for answering my and other questions. You all have done a great job with the Gen V and can be proud. I'm saving now!

One of the common complaints among Viper owners (in hot climates especially) is the amount of heat entering the interior of the car through the floor area (not just the side sills). Have there been any significant improvements in reducing heat transfer to the driver compartment beyond the side exhaust/door sill area? It seems like the A/C system could use a little more capacity to keep up with this massive heat generating V10!
