Warrenty Question

I purchased a used 2003 SRT10 in April of 2008 with 14,200 miles on it. The car now has 15,400 on it and I just had routine service done this week. The mechanic, at my request, investigated the clunking sound coming from the rear of the car when shifting. The sound had been there since I purchased the vehicle.

Results are that the gear spacing tolerances in the differential are way off. It would seem that new gears are in order to get a nice, crisp connection from the drive shaft to the wheels.

My question: Will these parts be covered under any type of drivetrain warrenty from Dodge?

not unless you purchased a extended warranty factory warranty is 3yr/or 36k miles what ever comes first

I believe the 03's, 04's and maybe some 05's had 7-70 on powertrain, however, I think you would have to be just the second owner, and maybe have transferred it. I would chk. with the dealer.

If not covered by warranty, a "new" (lightly used rear axle) units are cheap.
Not even worth rebuilding the original one....

I have a 2003 that I bought brand new and it came with a 7-70 powertrain warranty. The rear diff is part of the powertrain. The question here is simple. Did Alan have the 7-70 powertrain warranty transfered to his name when he bought the used 2003 viper? If so it is covered. If not then he needs to get the transfer taken care of and then take the care to a certified Dodge viper shop and make them repair it under warranty. Chrysler has been hedging on doing warranty repairs lately but if you push them hard enough they do come thru.
