I have a friend that has a blown Z06 and he is running 11.5 to 11.9 on street slicks. I was womdering what quater mile times a stock 98 GTS would run on street tires. then what times on street slicks. If I race him am I going to look like I had my butt handed to me?

Completely Stock, average track, 1.8 60', I would think 12.3.
Full exhaust, average track, 1.8 60', 11.9s

Drag Radials, should gain another .4 or so. JMO

Completely stock, and Drag Radials, average track 11.7 maybe better.

It really depends on alot of factors. But I think with some practice on DRs, you and the blown Z06 would be very close.
If he's on DRs and your on Street Tires, you are toast. Especially, if you haven't been to the track before.

1st time to the track and you're likely to run 12.6 or so and 60' around 2.0.

Thanks for the info casey. Thats what I needed. I want him to run on street tires and I would do the same but he will not. I have not been to the strip in many years and he has been going the last few weeks. So, he has about 20 runs of practice. I have to get a leaking timing chain cover fixed next month so by then he will have alot more practice.

I've run 12.05 bone stock on Pilots. But it has to be a good track. With slicks you will run 11s consistantly. I have some used G-Force for sale if you want them.

Guys like casey are on crack with all that TT power  .You can run 12.2's with a 2.0.Done it more times than care to mention. You hit a 1.8 and you'll be 11.9 or better all day.Top end wise what's his MPH,yours should be 118+-.
The MPH car will take over top end.

I think 'TT' is the new nickname for Crack on the Streets! :D

I was posting numbers based on a NOVICE at the track. Obviously, if he asking what times to expect, then he hasn't had his Viper to the track yet.

And we all know, it takes a few trips down the straight to get your times down!

Now, if I was talking about the BEST times, and experienced driver times, they would have been lower.
Track prep mean a lot too.

Now where is that Crack, I mean 'TT' ! :p

Are the quarter mile times the same for an RT/10 99'?

yup motor/performance is exactly the same, as long as you as the driver can do it, I know I cant.

98vipergts -

I am going to help you as best I can.

I have a stock Viper GTS except for Roe smooth tubes, Roe filters, and Kumho Ecsta V700 tires (sticky).

When I first bought the car last July 2004 it just had K&N filters and stock tires, no smooth tubes.

Two weeks later at the track it ran a best of 12.3s@116 with a 1.94 60'.

Six months later it had Roe tubes and filters and back to the track I went on a cold December day with a 30mph headwind.

My best that day was a [email protected] on a 1.89 60', but I had to completely get out of every 1-2 shift or hit the wall. 60' times were 8.0 at anywhere from 92-94.

My worst time that day and ever was a 12.6.

Finally on 4/29 I got to the track again, this time with some STICKY Kumho street tires.

The difference was clear -

All my launches were at 2000rpms as I always do, all my 60's were 1.8 and on 5 passes I went three 11.8s@120+ and two 11.9s@120+.

Finaly I took a chance and on my last pass launched at 3500rpms resulting in a 1.68 60', a 7.5 1/8, and a 11.67@120+.

I am an average driver, I don't powershift, and I can't do a standing burnout (I just dump the clutch and do a quick spin to clean the tires).

Here is a link to the videos that day, you can do the same, just tach the car up to 2000rpms, at the light let off the clutch and go full throttle as soon as you feel it grip, shift at 5800rpms, sit close and upright as you can, don't hold the wheel to tight, keep it straight, and go hand your buddy a loss. GET Kumho Ecsta V700s out back!

You can do it,

i had solid 12.3's bone stock 98 with pilots, and my 60' times were terrible at @ 2.0-2.1. this was my first time ever with the GTS at the track

so i know its possible to get into the 11's with a stock GTS, but you have to drive the heck out of the car.

These are NORMAL times for average drivers that don't get to the track all the time.
The Kumhos will win some races for you! Howard is evidence of that! :2tu: 1.6x 60' is what Kumhos give you! :D

Eric is hitting 2.0 60' and running 12.3. I think he is right, in that 11s are possible, but it will take 1.8s, and practice to get there! Maybe a clutch of two too!! :p

Your welcome.

I would say that 1.8s definitely are important in getting 11s, BUT.....

What I found more important was the fact that with stock tires I could not shift 1-2 without getting out of control GRANNYSHIFTING.

The Kumhos allowed me to go 1-2 as hard as I wanted (still grannyshifting), but that made a bigger difference than even the 60' times.

Evidence (not counting the 3500rpm launch run) -

Pilots (2000rpm launch) - 1.89 60' - 8.0 1/8th - 12.3 1/4
Kumhos (2000rpm launch) - 1.8x 60' - 7.7 1/8th - 11.8 1/4

The 1/8th mile was where the Kumhos really shined.

My buddy wants to give me his old B&M ripper shifter, but I am doing well with the stocker so I am afraid to switch, but that might be worth 0.1 with those short precise throws.

Good luck everyone and go get those 11s, if I can do it, anyone can.

Howard

Howard (Yell03),

I'm going to try your launch technique this weekend. I haven't switched to Kumhos yet, but will at some point. I've been playing with a GTech device for 0-60,0-100, etc. Lot of fun, more so if I could better master the launch. Thanks for the info. :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa:

Drop your Pilots to 25-26#, tach it up to 2000rpms (like 1/16th pedal), as soon as you get the light let off the clutch and as soon as it grabs go full throttle.

This should get you 1.8s and 1.9s.

My big problem at the track on Pilots is the 1-2 shift getting out of control. If you hve the same problem try shifting 1-2 earlier at like 5500rpms or even less if necessary or just roll back in to the throttle after the shift at 5800rpms, I go full throttle as soon as I make the shifts which makes traction 1-2 difficult on the Pilots if the track is not prepped well, but....

I'm an all or nothing sort of person.

Somehow Paul on this board has gotten a 1.7x 60' on Pilots by riding out the clutch and has run a 11.7x @ 119.x in a COMPLETELY stock 2001 RT/10 - no filters or anything.

Good luck at the track,

Howard

This week-end on the Englishtown track best drivers with 100% stock Vipers made: 60'=1.8 / ET=12.3 / 115mph on the 1/4 mile. Temperature was 75F.

ACR steve -

If you could get a 1.88 you would run a solid 11.7-11.8.

Schulmann -

For some reason I always run a little better at ATCO???

Yello- I would be very happy if I broke 12 seconds.I think another try at the track and the right air pressure would do it.
