Admission: I did a bad, immature thing. I am under a little 'stress' at work. (Any business owners out there?) Business is maybe 'too' good at the moment, bringing deadlines, demands. Whatever. I left work today in a foul frame of mind.

Like the inexcusable kicking of a dog, Viper got the brunt. With streets clear, I nailed the throttle, dropped the clutch, left 40feet of twin black marks and a cloud of Michelin vapor.

The scorched tire smell disippated in a few minutes of very calm driving. The scorched clutch smell did not. I swear, it smelled so hot I thought something was on fire briefly.

After an hour of parking the car, then driving it home sedately, the nasty smell persists (though not nearly as stout).

Never done this kind of thing before. Does this stench persist for a while? Did I break something?

Feel free to rub my nose in the misbehavior, but mostly seeking answers for car abuse.

Sounds like normal driving to me..................... :D :D

If you had an RT/10, it would dissipate, but with the GTS, you're stuck with it.........................

J/K............. it should go away over time. :2tu:

Should be fine, but if you think it might still be slipping, a good way to check is drive the car in fifth or sixth on the highway and apply throttle. If you have a slipping clutch, you'll notice the RPMs jump without a proportional increase in speed. At least that's what always happens to my cars when the clutch is about to go south.

you may have let it slip just too long, this smell is just not so easy to get rid of, but when you just drive it quite for some time afterwards, it cools the best. The clutch won't die by abusing it once, but if it did you allready should have noticed that it keeps slipping. Youll be fine.

Just always remember, when you try to draw something on the street, keep your foot of the clutch. When you keep your feet a little on it, than it slips!

Like others said, aino big thang, thats what Vipers were made for!

Clean up all non-porous surfaces with armorall or something like that and Febreeze the whole thing. Gets alot of it eliminated right away.

It should be ok. I cooked mine 2 yrs ago at the strip. I mean, really cooked it. Bounced it off the rev-limiter before the 60 ft mark. Wasn't sure if I'd be able to drive home. It hasn't let me down yet. Although, I am gonna replace it soon :D

Thanks so much folks. I feel better about it. Happened to be reading Proverbs 16 this morning as a Lent ritual (that I hope will persist) and it said "better to be a patient man who controls his temper than one who takes a city". Wonder who THAT message was for? Guilty.

Anyway, I think I did let it slip instead of side-stepping fully, causing more scorch than a drag condition. Glad to know these are tough old birds. If I'd done that in any other car, I'd have broken something very expensive. Long live the Viper!
