What if C6 Z06 has over 500HP...would sell the Viper?

I'm hearing that most of the guys bought the Viper just because it was fast and not because it was an exclusive car. I would not sell my Viper because I love the looks even many of my friends have Vipers it is still less of them than there is Corvettes.
So would you sell?

On that same note, if such a Corvette is created, will those that have yet to purchase their Viper choose the Corvette instead of an RT/10 or GTS Viper?

Since I am in this category, my answer is a resounding NO. The Corvette in no way looks as good as a Viper.

Not only that, but with aftermarket mods, you can make your Viper as powerful as you want. So why settle for a car whose looks (from the factory) are less than that of the Viper? You don't have to, so there's no reason to.

If you are a Viper owner that chose a Viper solely on its power, not its looks, and so you DO sell, and purchase the 500HP Corvette, then when the Viper Competition Coupe version comes out, and has more power, will you then sell your Corvette, and come back to the snake side?

Nope - I'd add it to the stable though. Just as I did with the Viper and ZR1 - didn't sell the Z for the Snake.

Now, if I hadn't purchased my Viper already when this super 'vette arrived on the scene I'd probably have gone with the best performer of the two...hard to say here and now.

Likewise you could ask :

"If something else comes out, say the Ford GT, and is much more exclusive and better looking than a GenI/II Viper, would you sell?"

Note that I don't believe that there is a better looking car on the planet than a GenII GTS save perhaps a Ferrari 250 GT SWB...and I wouldn't sell any of my cars to get anything more exclusive anyhow.

I hopefully will never sell my viper. Its design is one of the best created in my opinion. I was actually very close to buying a Z06 last fall. The only reason I didn't was the dealership was being less than honest. Anyway, it all worked out for the best. I paid a bit more for my viper than for a Z06, but it is worth it. C5 vettes are all over the place. I rarely see vipers on the road.

Nothing like a Viper. I worked for GM for 30yrs, drove the C5 as a test driver when there were only 2 in existance...But after maybe 6 Vettes and now on my third Viper - it's all or nothing

i bought the viper based upon the total package (looks, power, handling, cost, etc) for which i think its still second to none. i personally dont think its a car to buy if all youre looking for is power. its common sense that almost each year something better will come out with more power (ie the srt10) so if you buy a car based entirely upon the fact that "at the time you bought it" it was the most powerful, relatively soon someones gonna piss in your cornflakes. everyones different so to each his own

I tend to have several cars at one time, so thinking this one OR that one makes my poor little brain hurt. My brain is much more contented when it thinks this one AND that one. :D

LOL

Yep, 500hp Vettes. Uh-huh. I bought my Viper for the cubes anyway. If GM ever puts 500 cubes in a Vette...well, it's too late anyway so screw them.

The answer is no. I didn't buy the Viper for speed and horsepower alone. I bought it partly for its stunning good looks and because they don't make 35,000 of them a year or whatever like the Vettes. Then of course its powr and speed was the other half of the reason. If they made a 600 hp Vette they still wouldn't get me to sell my Viper for it.

If they came out with a 500 HP/500 LBS/FT Vette that has a better looking body than the C-5 and sold it for around 50K, I would consider buying one. I would never sell my Viper for one though.

Cubes rule the earth. If the Vette made 500hp it would be doing it at 7 grand. S2000 puts out lots of hp, I can take one from a roll in my Taurus if they don't head for low gears quick. New Cobra Mustang makes tons of hp and torque, but trade? Not a chance! Viper is the badass king of the road just like the original Cobra.

From the moment I saw the Viper GTS prototype at the Indianapolis car show, I KNEW that someday I would have one. I've owned many cars over the years, but I never had the burning, all consuming desire to own a specific car like I have felt with the GTS. To me, the GTS embodies all of the emotional feelings that make me a "car guy". I will NEVER sell it. It's a part of me. As to the issue of new cars coming on the scene that may challenge the GTS for the throne, they don't have a chance. First of all, none of them has the testosterone pumping looks of the GTS - end of story. Secondly, if a Ford GT, BMW M6, Mercedes SL 65 AMG, Mercedes SLR, C6, or any other new kid on the block wants to go head to head with me, I've got a little surprise under the hood - 900 ********** snakes.

18" + 600hp MN vette = Long 'Gerald' Silver? So much for the short shifter..

No way would I trade my Viper for a Vette, unless I could turn around and sell the it and get 2 Vipers! :D
Seen the Vette crowd, been in the Vette crowd, but the Viper and the people in this club are the best!

I would kill for active-handling on my ACR. But I did cancel a 2003 Z06 to buy my 2nd Viper.

If the C6 Z06 is a 427 block like the LeMans Vettes, not a punched out 350 then yes, I would sell my snake to buy one.

I love Vettes too :usa: , just can not have more than 3 vehicles right now.

Oh, no...another "Chevy" sort of thread...

Autocrossed today with Bugeater and a couple of other buds. Vipermad was along for logistical/video/moral support.

Serious autocrossers there, and then we, the novices. I invited two excellent, highly experienced drivers to drive my GTS. Neither had driven Vipers prior. Both guys, who run incredible times in their cars, were highly impressed, and felt honored to drive the Snake.

No way would they have been as enthusiastic about driving a Chevy, whether or not it has "Z" somewhere in its moniker.

The Viper is unique, unforgiving, brutish, callous, and lots of other things. Mostly postive, and also some negatives.

The Viper is special. The Chevy is not.

I think some of you may be fooling yourselves by ruling out the C6 so quickly. I have not seen the concept so I can not comment on the look of the car, but in the performance aspect I can assure ya'll that a 500/500 Vette in a lighter package than the Viper should offer up a more than an adequate challenge. Stock for stock the current ZO6 is not far off the pace from the viper in the quarter mile, but has anyone raced one on the street or in the eighth mile? How about SCCA road race or SOLO 2? I really enjoy my current viper. It is my third one so I guess I am hooked. I own it because it is fun to drive and although it doesnt do any one thing great( stopping, drag racing, autocross)it does them all particularly well. I'll wait until I get a chance to drive the latest creation from GM to make my decision.

Well stated SR.

It's too soon to pass judgment on a car that we can't even drive yet. (but I do agree that out of the two types of owners that I've experienced over the years on both sides of the fence, I'd rather spend my winters with the Viper fellas - no question)

Email me about your mods on your L - I've done a little to mine as well. ;)

Chuck.... lol

Following Daffy as a future owner - what GM do is immaterial... if we want the quickest car we'll be changing them like our underwear - this year a Lambo, next a Brabus TT V12 or a Veyron blabla

I'm not into that.... can only drive one at a time - rather have a smaller collection and enjoy those while appreciating what others have.

For me - I've been a Mopar guy for a long time - a Viper has the looks that are irreplaceable, the cubes and hot up potential beyond most anything out there in the good ol hot-rodding tradition, and last but not least...

good as Vettes are - there's no emotional attachment to them for me... they're just good cars.... like so many others!

The Viper however is special, it might not be king of the road, but it's king of most, it might not be best at everything, but it's close in many things that matter to me... what it is however - is the best dam supercar all things considered that I'd want to put my money into....

If I just wanted to get from A to B as fast as possible - I'd get an AWD Skyline GTR, Evo or STI WRX and spend $50k doing them up and be content with that - on public roads apart from an interstate - they are virtually unbeatable.

Sometimes its not just about being fastest a to b - but how you feel getting there and what you see when you get to your garage, and hear when you gun it through a forest and back off thru the turns. My Viper will not beat my brothers Skyline thru a twisty coastal road because you can't beat AWD traction - but on every straight I can get it to hook it'll walk the talk, on every turn I can throw it in it'll hold like a go-kart, everytime I drive it will be with the utmost respect and awe, and every time I prod the throttle it'll bark like it had a life all of its own, with an exhaust note thru the gears that is an experience everytime I hear it, as will everytime I see it in the garage and think - "gee - that's mine, doesn't she look fantastic!"

Heh...torque - the fastest car isn't always the best performer, is it? :)

Fast is fine but it has to do a lot more for me, too.

Ditto with an adder.

I've never seen one car outrun another on it's own. Saying one car is faster than another is very subjective. They all need drivers.

The power is only one reason that I have bought my Viper. The looks have had me from day one when the first mule was tested. My frends and I have never stopped loving the style and well "shock and all" when we see them on the road. I see my GTS in the garage and smile each and every time. And yes I do want more power and when the time comes that I can aford it there will be a supercharger on it. My two cents.

If they don't build that vette my next car will be the viper.

I also wanted to add that alot of you seem to be comparing gen II cars not the SRT. I think to be fair you would have to ask would you buy the 500 HP, 2800 LB C6 Z06 or the 505 SRT 10. Looks are starting to get comparable now that the SRT isn't as exotic looking as it predecessor so it comes down to performance and production #'s. Is 25 - 30G worth it when all you are getting is low production numbers. Of course we are assuming that GM will step up to the plate.

Depends on the 'look' of the next Vette. I 100% agree that the RT/10 and GTS will always look better than anything else on the road, but we have to admit those are hissstory and the SRT carries the new Viper 'style'. While it is better than a C5, we'll just have to see what a C6 looks like parked next to the SRT. THEN when it performs better and costs less.....Dodge better be working ******* the street coupe.
