I was thinking of buying a 99 or 00 GTS, but I drove a 96 yesterday. I love the car and the color. It was my first time seeing the blue in person. I started searching the classifieds and noticed the price range for low mileage cars was between 55 and 60.

-What do you guys think is a reasonable price?
-Assuming that mileage and the condition of the cars are the same, How much more for a 97?
-Besides the refinements that all manufacturers do through the years, Any real differences compare to the 99 or 00?

Thanks guys

Happy Holydays!!!!!

Well if you took the car on a test drive it has more than 5 miles on it now

I would say $50K or high $40's is reasonable with no warranty or other upgrades. But if you like the car what's a few more $K? Buy it!

If there is an extended warranty, that should be factored into the final price. Most enthusiasts would agree that, if all possible, a warranty can be priceless. Typical extended warranties from DC will provide 4-48 protection, after an initial 7-70 is has expired.

Good luck....

I would never buy the car for $55,000 or $60,000. If your going to spend that kind of money then you need to start thinkin about a brand new Viper IMO. Unless of course, your dead set on the color. Which happens to be my favorite by the way. I agree with MES, $50K or high $40's would be fair.

Remember, don't get so caught up in the mileage game that you overlook the mechanical condition of the car. The right "break in" , documentation, and oil changes etc. should factor more in the equation than only mileage. I looked off and on for about a year before I bought a 7,000 mile '96 GTS a couple of months ago. I was partial to the blue/white combo and I like the idle of the agressive cam cars better. Take your time and find the right car you are looking for. Don't worry about paying a few thousand more to get the car you want, you'll be happier in the end. You should be able to find a really nice '96 or '97 for 48K to 55K.

It is important on a 1996GTS to be aware of some ideosyncracies.
If discoverd and fixed em all.........amd probably have 3-4 TSBs named after me on 1996 GTS !

I agree that low-50s is the place to be, and that car WILL hold its value very well. 1996 GTS TRIVIA:

1996 Blue/White was supposed to be a 1-year color; Paying Homage to the Official Pace Car heritage, and retired after 1996. However, the launch of the GTS was delayed at least 4 months, and some complain 6+ mos late. (SRT-10 buyers pay heed)

So many Blues were undelivered, that Blue was carried over in 1997 to fulfill those orders. And the Blue/White was a $1000 premium in 1997....but not extra to 1996 carryover orders.

1996 first year of the coupe. Coming soon will be a premium on resale from a collectability standpoint. First ofs and last ofs will demand more money, sooner or later.

Plus there is really no performace difference in a new GTS and the 96 other than ABS. Many think the forged piston cars are better engines.

I dunno... I think the 50's sounds high. The one guy is selling a 99 ACR for $59k... someone else had a 2000GTS for $58k These are much more "sorted out" cars than the 96's, IMO, and newer is almost always better.

Personally, I'd jump on the silver/blue 99 ACR if I could - arguably the best year of the Viper, and a really good price too.

I bought my 1996 several months ago, $54,000. The car is totally mint, bone stock, and had a little over 3000 miles on it when I bought it. I purchased it from a friend, so discussing price wasn't an issue (I don't believe in haggling price with a friend

If you find one you like, can afford it...BUY IT!! Personally, appearance wise, I prefer the 96 blue/white over the 97. The car from the rear with the stripes all the way through the license plate area makes a significant difference in appearance from the rear.
Good luck!
