Bidpay is another one.

Why is paypal such a hassle? I have never had a problem with it. (knock-on-wood!)

I had used paypal many times to pay for ebay items and never had any problems. What kind of problems did you have? Ebay has an escrow service you can use.

I'll chime in with an issue near and dear to my heart. I have been using PayPal for years. As they recommend, I have had my PayPal account attached to my checking account. Last December, two days before I am to be married and leave the country on my honeymoon I notice that my checking account is empty. Long story short, someone hacked my PayPal account and stole a very significant amount of money.

PayPal was totally unhelpful and took over a full month to refund the stolen funds. Countless calls, numerous idividuals and more self-righteous arrogance that I could have ever imagined.

To date, I have not found another service as widely accepted as PayPal. Now that Ebay owns them, I can't imagine a competitor making any progress.

Protect yourselves, I learned the hard way.

I couldn't agree more....arrogance is one main thing they have and they treat you like it's not your money you're spending with them. jerks!

Open a savings account with the minimum $25 just to give Paypal an account number. Then have the eBay items charged against your credit card, not direct withdrawal from the bank. Yes, they ask you every time to use your bank account, you'll get entered in a contest if you do... Then the worst anything Paypal (or a hacker) can do is charge against the plastic (and you can save one credit card just for this use) which you can later refute, and get your $25.

Made a post yesterday at the Alley about receiving an email that said I was "pre-indefinetly suspended" for eBay. I haven't been on eBay much, so I wasn't sure if these were commom. Inside it had a link to my personal info. and wanted me to fill out such as well as credit card info. It appeared official, but it was a scam, and thank god I ignored it.

I wish I could find these people and talk to them in person.

They did the same to me. I've always used paypal and I'm always on ebay. I had to cancel a credit card because of internet scams and I also had over $2k emptied from my checking account from paypal. It was a hassle, I had to fill out a few forms, loss of cash for a few weeks, but I never lost a dime. It's the cost of doing business. I still buy heavily on ebay and always pay by paypal and I'm sure it's a matter of time before it happens again, but like I said, it ends up being a minor hassle and no money is lost permanently from my account.

I've used PayPal for several years now, and never had a problem. My wife has thousands of transactions (4k+) and never had a problem other than dealing with buyers who can't read instructions. Three or four times a day, she'll get emails, supposedly from PayPal or eBay, saying that she needs to update her account info or some other official sounding instruction. NEVER respond to these emails! The links embedded in these messages lead to false front websites set up to collect account info. Many (probably the majority) of the people who've had problems were "hacked" in this manner.....social engineering, the most efffective form of hacking :)

BidPay ( www bidpay com ) lets you purchase a Western Union money order with your credit/debit card and they mail it to the seller for you, along with forwarding a email stating that payment is on the way to both parties for confirmation. ( for a small charge ) TROUBLE FREE I Used it dozens of times, and yes I HATE PAYPAL ALSO !

No, we never learned how they grabbed my account info. PayPal's investigative team didn't return my calls.

Thanks for the info on bid-pay. I'll have to check it out.

There are several e-mail scams about paypal and e-bay. If you ever get an e-mail sent by ebay or paypal do NOT click on it... go to ebay or paypal directly and connect through there!!!
