I have a potential opportunity to relocate to the Fredericksburg/Stafford VA area and have heard nightmares related to the VA personal property tax. Does anyone have any experience with this and if so, how much do you pay. From what I hear they charge $6.00 per assessed $100 in value based on the NADA guide. I'm hoping that is not correct. Thanks for the help.

I own a 2009 ACR and live in the county north of Fredericksburg.

The personal property tax is a huge PITA and all Virginia residents complain about it. VA is one of the most expensive and costly states in the country to own a vehicle due to the personal property tax. It's simply another way for the local govt to get their hand in your wallet.

Last year, I paid approximately $2,290 for personal property tax on my ACR. However, I'm not sure of the exact formula they use to calculate the dollar amount.

Good luck.

Check the tax rate for your county. My Acr was $2400 per year. My personal property tax has been as high as $4700 per year and will not miss it by much this year again. Then put real estate tax on top of that. VA is expensive to live in. Dont forget your state income tax. It goes on and on.

Holy crap, $2,290 for property tax EVERY year. Does that include insurance I hope. That is crazy. Between that and the speeding ticket cost in Va I think I would move out of that state really quick. Literally highway robbery.

No, that does not include insurance. So glad I live in Texas. Only corporations/businesses pay property taxes on vehicles.
