I use Mobil 1. Castrol Syntec is not a "real" synthetic in the traditional sense. There was a lawsuit by Mobil, but Castrol can use the synthetic nomenclature with some provisos... If I heard things right, Syntec is a traditional oil-from-the-ground oil which has been treated under extreme pressure with water. I'm not a tribologist (lubrication specialist Ph.D.) so I'm not sure if what results is the same or better than more expensive synthetics. There are turbo fanatics which also prefer Mobil synthetic oils, but they prefer straight 30 weight synthetic oil. The viscosity modifiers which "thicken" the oil at higher temperatures are plastics which break down into varnish eventually. This stuff tends to coke up turbo bearings. Unfortunately, straight 30 weight Mobil 1 synthetic is only available in large quantities, not your convenient 1 quart bottles. That said -- I had a turbo on a Saturn and ran it with 10-30 Castrol Syntec because that was the best oil Oil Can Henry (a Jiffy Lube kinda place) had. When I replaced the turbo after 15K miles -- the bearings were clean and there was no coking in the center housing. If you replace your oil at 3K mile intervals, Castrol is probably OK.
