I've been thinking about repainting my car for awhile. The paint has some flaws that can't be "fixed" and I want to have it done right. Anyone repainted their Viper that would care to give me at least a rough estimate on what it cost?

I'm sure alot of people are probably gonna say 10 grand. Why not just repaint the panels that have "flaws" ?

Kelly, I'd say a good paint job from a shop in our area will be at least $7000. I've had friends with Miata's get 4-5 thousand dollar quotes. A paint job is something I wouldn't want to skimp on (not that you would). I've had some supra buddies get "bargain" paint jobs and they did not end up that great. I think Wagon Werks (sp?) in our area has the best reputation. I also know they charge and arm, leg and some vital organs for their work.

Just like everything else in Northern Virginia, you pay a premium.

I'm fine with paying what it takes to get a good job done when it's time. I actually thought of approaching FoW to see who they use. I'm sure the folks painting Ferraris and Lambos would do a fine job. I was expecting to hear somewhere between 7 and 10K. That doesn't seem too far off the mark.

I use a guy out of Pittsburg. I average 5-6K for flawless paint, and hand painted items.....

My car has aftermarket stripes on it, and they re-cleared the hood, roof and trunk and didn't do a fantastic job. At this point, might as well do doors, sills and rear-quarters too. And my front fascia, well...the surface of the moon has less craters in it. The car needs a full repaint to be as clean as I want it.

Become friends with a good painter.. Let them do the work "on the side" and save you a few grand and still have the quality paint job. They ussually make out better in pay also. It's a win win situation

Explaining Viper things to you
I got a quote from a local shop here for 3 large. That would be spot repair to some defects, stripes, then re-clear the car. Not a real repaint, but then I don't need it.

Of course even the paint in Texas is made of cow sh_t, so I'll look north for a bit to comparison shop.

If rumors about the Viper's demise come true, we're going to have a lot of folks painting their Vipers as folks start holding on to them longer.

As long as the car is completely disassembled for $7500 I think that is a fair price. We have done a couple for around that. You will pay a bit more if you have any aftermarket body work added. This should get you a job lot's better than the factory can provide with no trace of a repaint. Of course the roof and rear quarters will stay on the chassis.

I disagree with this. A good painter may not be a good person or a good businessman. Although this may lead to a cheaper deal in the end, you will have to wait much longer for the job to be completed (someone's car will always have priority over yours) and you will have zero recourse if the end result is less than satisfactory. My vote for make friends with a painter.

I just finished all the bodywork and paint on my Challenger. I had the car completely disassembled and all quotes I got were between $6K - $8K to paint the car. One of the professionals I met was between jobs and said he would do it in his own shop Same guy who would have done the work for $8K but ended up costing me less than $2K.

I would recommand a reputable shop do the work, that way you can hold them accountable if they do a **** job. I've had 4-paint jobs done on vehicles I've owned over the years, all done by "friends," and only one came out looking really good. As for the rest, they could have turned out better, and unfortunately I had to live with it because they were friends that did the work.

If you're painting your old truck or grocery getter, yes find a friend. If it's your Viper, don't get cheap on it and pay the piper.

Also, make sure the shop uses a good paint system. DuPont's Chroma System is the best as far as I know. There may be better ones out there, but I do know that you can't go wrong with it if you spend the money on it.

Just my $.02.

I've seen some of the paint work that Chuck got done for a UK member and it was 10/10 +

It was on a 06 blue coupe and Steve (owner) wanted white stripes so chuck had them painted on ....You could not even feel the ridge between the two colours....
