Re: What\'s the News From the Viper Days Finals ?

I don't have all the results , that will be posted on the viper days website but here some info. Friday was a good test and tune day aside from losing my tranny at the end of the day. Sat. was a complete rain out, first in 7 years. Sunday was good. Paul Mumford won the race in Bob Woodhouse car,I think Mike McCann was 2ND and than Rob Foster. Not sure if thats Official, I had to catch a plane. Fast Fun track.

Re: What\'s the News From the Viper Days Finals ?

Saturday was a total washout - no runs at all. Sunday morning was foggy and damp, then overcast, but there was no more rain. The main infield section was the first to dry, but the back bowl was paved with a different mix that held water quite a bit longer. This caught several people out - including (but not limited to) Mumford, Archer and "HoosierDaddy" Alan M.

Paul Mumford easily took the W2W race in Bob W's #13 GT-1 car. I think his fast lap was a high 1:46, with many in the :48's. Paul also owned Unlimited in the Challenge. After the race, he took his <u>street car</u> out and laid down a low 1:49 or a :48.xx. (**-hum...) Bob W was #2 in a racecar, Paul Schley was #3. John Dearing topped his class, Tom Atherton, Rhonda Johnson and Brian Kelly were winners in their respective classes. Apologies in advance to those I couldn't remember.

There were some REAL DRIVERS in attendance! There are many Vipers around here that struggle to crack 2:00 on Hoosiers with tons of weekends at TWS, but there were at least half a dozen that were under 2:00 running street Michelins! Several of the Hoosier-shod Unlimited cars were into the low 1:50's and that is <u>SMOKIN'</u>! That most of these folks had never laid eyes on the track before is a testament to their adaptability - especially with Saturday being washed out. Congrats to those folks!!!

I haven't been to a Viper Days event in 2 years and was literally stunned at the "high style" that I saw when I pulled into the paddock. This is a recession?

The weekend went off very smoothly despite the weather, thanks to the efforts of the whole Viper Days gang. It was great to see everyone again, and to meet some of the new faces that have come along.

Mumford is a brown nose and a trader! Well, at least he put up a time in the unlimited class for the left side. I heard he "checked out" in the race anyway...

Re: What\'s the News From the Viper Days Finals ?

You is right, he is a trader. He traded his race car in Unlimited, for Bobby W's in the Wheel to Wheel Race. He did a nice run with about a 8 sec. lead over Second Place Mike McCann. McCann won the Overall Championship ,with some great runs during the year. It is going to be super exciting when all these boys are running identical Comp. Coupes. Viper Days is building the excitement, and Dodge is instilling the passion at PVO --- we just can't go wrong.

PS - Correct spelling is traitor, but I think you really did mean trader in your heart, as Paul is one trading fool, too!

Way to go, Left Coast!

Congrats to my personal hero John Deere, oops, I mean John Dearing, and Paul
hail[1].gif
Mumford.

How did the Ronster do?

Here is my obligatory excuse for not showing my bright shiney face around lately-

I'm workin' my butt off! Working weekends as well. We sold a lot of elevators, and now its time to put 'em all in. After spending $1.5M on labor in 2001 and not making anything decent on it in the way of returns, its time for this elevator guy to get back to his shaft.

Here is a tip that I learned from this, When you need personel, don't just call the hall and say "Send me somebody".

Maybe early next year I can pop my head out for a bit, and get back to the track.

Thanks for listening, now back to the racing!

SoCal got 4th in prep. it was a very tight class in the 2nd-4th place. Dearing put down a blistering sub 2 sec run for first place in a stock ABS GTS...outstanding. While 2nd place went to Ray Moore of St. Louis with a 2:01.5, 3rd place to Nancy Stein with a 2:01.6 and the rebel was 4th witha 2:01.7!!

This was my first event- didn't drive, just checking out how things were done and it is first class. Skip and his family are top shelf people. Courtney is OK also
wink.gif
The other drivers and crews were top shelf as well. Bob and Rick from NE, Eddie and Brian from Bill Luke, Jerry from Autoform, Robin from Archer, Sonny and Ted, Rob "Wild Child" Foster, Dearing, Atherton, Walker, PMUM, Jim Stout, all fantastic people that are very approachable and easy to talk to. It was great to meet all these people

Congrats to Bobby Archer for his impressive showing in the dually race on Saturday in the rain...even though he had a Mercedes and not a dually. Foster, Moore and Woodhouse all had impressive vehicle control.

If you want a fantastic and safe track experience with your Viper, there simply is no other choice- Viper Days.

Great pictures, which are truly worth 1,000 words! Mumford working in the pits, let alone on his own car... Good thing someone was there to watch over him. Those lug nuts can really be confusing. You gotta see him change brake pads...

Thanks Dean et al for the excellent coverage. I wish I coulda been there ( "I couldn'ta been a contenda"). These events are just so class and so much fun that I cannot imagine a better time behind the wheel.

Hopefully Alan Mo... Hoosier Daddy didn't anger any of the locals and end up beat up and in jail. ;^)

See ya next year !

I kept close tabs on Alan Saturday after the banquet. We drove down the road the the Northgate area across from the northside dorms and hammered down some Shiner Bocks at Dudley's Draw and the Dixie Chicken. I don't know what he did for fun Thursday and Friday nights, but we did not have to bail him out of the Brazos County jail to run Viper Days. However, he did manage to get well and truly stuck in the mud during Sunday's first session. I guess he was still a little off-tempo from the previous night.

Re: What\'s the News From the Viper Days Finals ?

I just now arrived back in Seattle after four days of driving home. I pretty much have to echo all of the sentiments above - Friday was nice, Saturday was a washout, and Sunday was gorgeous. I only ran a 2:06, though I'm confident that I could have approached :01 or :02 if I had another full day to run. However, the infield was a thick clay mud that I wasn't getting near, so I didn't push it. Kudos to everyone who could run that fast and keep their cars shiny - I was way too chicken.

One of the more interesting events, IMHO, was watching Bob W., Hoosier Daddy, et. al. do "drive arounds" in their 1 ton dually pickups. Hammering rain, thunder, and all of a sudden these diesel trucks are 4-wheel power drifting through the back of the course before raci...err...'learning the track'...at 85 mph down the steeply banked front straight. Sort of reminded me of the hippo ballet in Fantasia.

Anyway, I have some photos and video of the weekend that I'll post once I unpack - thanks everyone for a great year and I'll see you next time around.
