What's Up With Dodge? - Why Are SRT-10 Prices Tanking So Fast?

OK,since you guys are obviously finger happy, and totally off topic, here's my 2 cents - At VOI8, Dodge displayed a brand new 05 Red SRT-10. Sticker price ? $85,995.00. So the price has gone up a grand. However, upon close inspection, there is absolutely no difference between the 04's and 05's unless you were unlucky enough to buy a yellow SRT-10 or will wait for an orange one.
My stock 04 SRT-10 ? 149MPH down the front straight at TMS (in 4th gear!) and an absolute thrill to drive on the road course. The Dodge Viper is a race car with headlights and a nice interior. There is no such thing as a race car holding its value - whether you drive it or not !

That number looks pretty dismal. If the trend continues it would be down to only 500-600 units in a couple of years
And 0 in 3-4 years.
I thought I read somewhere that DC planned on making close to 1,800 a year. I guess it's time to go back to the drawing board, literally.

10 years ago the Viper was the Ford GT. DC needs to prioritize the Viper and make it the icon it once was.
Go for classic 60's curvy design instead of this modern Japanese- teutonic look of the current SRT models. And give it 600HP!
The Gen III are nice but they don't take your breath away like the Gen I/II models.

I don't know where you or Motor Trend get these numbers.. if you go here
http://ivr.viperclub.org/build.php you will see the total production of Vipers from 1992 to 2003. All broken down to model types,years and colors.
In 2003, 1875 Vipers were built. That is the fifth largest amount ever in one year. Numbers for 2004 aren't out yet.

Yes, but you are comparing apples and oranges.
First 2003 was a coupon year, meaning the vast majority of the model year was sold before production started (1 year before in fact).
The second point is you are comparing year to year at different periods of time. To be on a common basis you would need to set sold by x months or say 2004 MY sales by September 1, etc.
Third you would have to normalize for a consistent model year timewise. That is you cannot compare a 10 month model year to a 14 month model year (and yes they do differ for some products. For instance the 2004 minivan model year was August through December (5 months) while the Sebring 2004 MY was from Jan 03 through July 04 (19 months)).

However, isn't Canada winning the world cup like an Eskimo winning an igloo building contest? If you didn't win, it would have been sad.

I'm not miserable just critical of things I don't particularily like. If I was in love with the SRT you wouldn't say a damn thing about my lack of ownership. The thing is it doesn't bother me at all. When I get the urge there's a nice blak or blue white stripe GTS waiting to go for a rip.
