I changed over to a Hurst short shifter a while back. When I did that I went to a ball style shift knob. The problem is that it's a knob with the Gen 3/4 Viper Logo.... I'd like something with Sneaky Pete.... where can I get one?

I am looking for something like these... don't know who had this photo as it was in a VCA post...

These would be cool but I'd like something as nice as possible. Maybe even a custom made unit in gloss plastic (to keep heat down - aluminum knobs get insanely hot)... just curious.... most posts on this are very old and I've not had much luck with google searches...

thanks in advance....

Thanks.. I've seen these. I like them but not quite as much as the ones in the photos. At this point, unless I can find another option, I may go that route.

If Im not mistaken, that is an MGW knob. It was one they never advertised on their website though. Here is a link. Someone correct me if Im wrong.

http://www.mgwltd.com/

I did not know they offered it at one point. I checked the site recently but lately they have not been offering these. So, as far as I can tell, they no longer offer it.

They do offer others, but the problem with the ones they off is that they way above the threaded portion of the shifter. In other words, the ball knobs come down over the threads at sit low. The "First Strike" knob I purchased from them (they no longer offer it) sits over 2" above the ball knob. Almost defeats the point of the short shifter. The MGW units, on a separate note, I don't think they fabricate. I've seen the same knobs on different sites with other logos, like SS Camaros, shift patterns etc. They either make them and sell the blanks out to others or they buy the knobs and make the inserts.

Thanks though!

I will continue to see if I can search for a custom piece... maybe that's the way to go...

The obvious person to check with is Jon at Partsrack. I would suggest emailing him your description of what you want. He could probably tell you whether it exists, still.

Awesome! Thanks. I had seen the page and the rally version of the knob but did not know they had Sneaky Pete

I have one to match the colour scheme of my car, Fast Red with Silver stripes :D

I got mine from MGW but just to let you know the thread inside the brass insert is metric and the Hurst and stock shifter on a Gen II threads are 1/2 inch 20.

You will need to get a 1/2 inch 20 thread tap and just run it down the brass insert, took less than 5 mins at a local engineering shop.

I ended up getting mine at MGW. They don't have the shifter on the web site but they do have a few in stock. They have the inserts for the knob in 1/2"-20 thread for the shifter and got that too.

I did hear something from the sales person... they told me that they are getting out of the Viper business. So, in short, they are selling what they have and then there will be no more. So if anybody wants something from MGW.... get it now or you will not get it....

BTW... I called them and while they can do a custom logo for me, they cannot do sneaky pete. Something about a license somebody has (I don't know who) that will not permit them to make it. I will be doing something custom with them.... but it will be without the snake...

Pretty sad.... I guess somebody wants to make some scratch on us and has eliminated the competition from making a product.

Oh well... thanks as I will be working with them on something of my own.

BTW... after all was said and done... I did not use the insert. As expected, it raised the shifter back up about 2 inches. Not what I wanted. I ended up drilling into the knob and threading for a 1/2 x 20 thread. To get it even further down onto the shifter, I removed about another 1/2" of threads in the brass insert in the knob itself. I then bore out the plastic in the knob a bit to get the shifter shaft as far "into" the ball as possible.

In the end, it worked out well. I like it. The knob itself is a bit larger than the typical ball shifter so there it's comfortable for me.

Thanks everybody!

Nice work, I like your suede details as well. The only real eye sore in the later Gen II Vipers is that aweful steering wheel. The air bag really makes for a bulbous design. The Gen V is much nicer IMHO. Again very nice job.
