Where to buy an Extended Warratny?

Hello all, im looking to buy an exteneded waranty for my 05 viper. anyone i should look into or you ahve used? ive tried dodge but they cant sell me one cause my car "in service" date is more than 4 years...any help would be great... thanks

The big problem with outside warranty companies is going out of business later and then your stuck.

If you have Geico, you can give their Mechanical Breakdown Insurance policy a try. They wouldn't do it on my (soon to be delivered) ACR, but they will on other cars. The cost is extremely competitive with other warranty providers, the company probably isn't going to go out of business, and you can take your car to wherever you want to get it fixed. Also, it really does cover 'everything' including some wear items that aren't usually covered (like the clutch).

they are the only ones that are willing to cover my car for $2200 for 60 mos or 100k miles powertrain. engine n tranny...are they reliable? also they say they pat with credit cards.. tators only accept cash or checks!!

Depends on which company you go with. They are the brokers, who is the underlying company you got a quote with? I tend to stay away from the engine and powertrain warranties, too much risk. They'll cover the engine, but not the lines that go to it (I made that up, but you know what I mean). I'd rather pay more for a bumper to bumper exclusionary warranty (they cover everything except what is listed as not covered). The powertrains are inclusionary, which ONLY cover what is listed. That leaves out a lot of stuff. I did not have good luck with the powertrain warranty I had before.

They'll pay with credit cards or reimburse you. I would never go the reimbursement route personally, or at the very least get it in writing that they plan to pay you $*** for the repair.

Oh, and I'd take those mods off your signature

What's the going rate on an extended warranty for, say an '08 or '09? For my '09 ACR, I was quoted $3500 for a maxcare 7 year. That seemed really steep to me since I'm only really getting 4 years of coverage beyond the regular warranty. I guess if the engine blew up or the transmission fell off the car, it's worth it - but my experience with my other Viper is that they're pretty darned reliable.

Nope, never bought a Viper warranty through them. I've bought a 911tt, Cayenne, and X5 warranty through them. I always buy the Maxcare for my Vipers. I guess the Viper is too risky for them to cover? Have you tried Fidelity auto warranties? They are pretty good from what I hear.

I think a few others sell it for similar prices, maybe another dealer closer by you will do the same. Worst case, just call Mike and buy it from him. Doesn't matter who you buy the contract from. It's good at any Dodge dealership.

Thanks for that info - when I got that quote, it was more than double what I paid for the same warranty on my GTS, and it got me wondering if something wasn't right... I could understand a 30% increase over what I paid for the GTS warranty, but 120%+ more? The car certainly isn't 120% more expensive than the GTS...

Was the same dealership quoting you on both the GTS and SRT10? I know Mike charged me the same on both my GTS and SRT. I wonder if prices are the same on all Dodge vehicles, and dealers are given the option to charge whatever markup they want. If I recall correctly, Mike's prices were about $100 over dealer cost.

Some pay more to support their local dealership. I probably would too (up to a certain extent). Good thing Mike is close enough to me to be considered local

I wonder if you could find a dealer that would buy your car and resell it back to you with a warranty From what I understand, dealers can sell a Maxcare warranty on used cars that are more than 3 years from the in-service date. Probably would be a pain in the butt to manage that, though - but I guess it depends on how bad you want the warranty and how nice your dealer is.

Funny you should say that... Mike did that for me on a 97 GTS a few years ago. I think it was an ADDED care, not Maxcare warranty though. That's powertrain only I think. I found the car I wanted, wired Mike the money, and he took care of the rest (bought car for me, then sold it to me). Even fixed some things for me before delivery. Can you tell I'm a big fan of Ringgold

At the time, I believe added care could be added between 3-4 years in-service, and maxcare under 3 years. Things have changed, though, I'm sure. Best just to call him up to get the exact options available!

these guys here offered a pwertrain warranty for 60 mos or 100k miles for $2200. they ahve been in biz since 1965 and are insured what ever that means..
