IMO, Vipers are all desirable period. But here's my take on the subject (based on everything I've learned from this site):

1992 - first year of production.
1996 - first year of GTS production with the classic and most desirable color (Blue/white).
1999 ACR - first year of the ACR option, and final year of engines with lumpy cams and forged pistons.
2002 Final Edition GTS or ACR

2002 Final Editions (limited to 360)
1996 or 1997 Blue with white stripes
1992 RT/10
Any ACR

In that order.

Yup, Hoosier right. The 1st on every list would have to be a not previously wrecked stock viper.

The most original cars and those with the largest assortment of NOS and impossible to find parts to go along with a sale. Some things just never change.

I have been collecting vipers and my favorites are as follows in order:

1)1992 RT10
2)1998 GT2
3)1996 GTS (Blue & White)
4)?????????

I still am undecided if the 2002 Final Edition is really a big deal or if they were just a way of getting rid of the 2002s before the 2003s show up.

My original thoughts were to get a 2003 SRT10 and collect the first year of each model but the longer I wait the more confused I become. I can not decided between a)2003 SRT10
b)2002 Final Edition GTS c)ACR GTS d)1997 Blue & White RT10.

I think the ACR will be one of the more desirable next to the GTS-R. The ACR's have fairly low production numbers and the colors combos are even less. I don't believe the blue/white will be in as much demand as most people think. A cool paint job won't will mean that much in 25 years. Just my opinion based on other collectors cars. I guess in 25 years we will see.

Thoughts alot of us are hearing now, concerning what will be worth alot in the future?

All the points are valid, yet one of the ideas some long time collectors are mentioning to me are things like:

1. ABS cars in the original styles --- about 1200 RT-10s ever built and around 1600 GTSs.

2. Colors --- examples; 1) 43 Graphite RT-10s with connelly interior ever built. 2) 36 Red/Silver Stripe GTSs built in 2001.
3) 21 Red Coupe with cognac interiors in 2002........you get the idea.

3. Don't forget the barely over 50 97 RT-10s that are Blue/ White

4. The Daytona Editions authorized by the Daytona Intl. Speedway --- no more than 7-8 ever built.

5. The most valuable cars ever built will be one that somehow has not been listed yet -------------VCA RAFFLE CARS!! With the one year, unique build of the VCA Raffle Cars, there is no doubt in my mind that these will be the most sought after Snakes in 10-20 years, as they are one unit builds!!!

I think it will go in this order-

1-98 GTSR
2-96 GTS Blue/White / 97 Blue/white RT/10
3-02 Final edition
4-Any ACR

I think the reason the '96 GTS will be sought after is because it was the pace car and the first GTS. Just my take.

I think that two decades from now Vipers with mods will be worth less than those with no mods. Look at the old Vettes. Twenty years from now there won't be very many folks looking for a Viper to use as a high performance car. They will want bone stock in every way. Cars with anything that is non stock will be undesirable just like a twenty five year old Corvette with any mods is today.

joe117 - You may just be right. I've got all my original Viper parts stored in my garage, so if in 25 years or so I retire my Viper, whoever is lucky enough to buy it will have the choice of restoring it back to original stock or leaving my "neccessary" mods on.

Joe 117 is correct. Stock, stock ,stock will be the all the rage. The big ticket cars will have 50 miles or less which will have been stored in a climate controlled environment. I know of a couple 92's like that and a 96 GTS. I also feel the VCA raffle cars will be unique. These were customized at the factory. I think the really special cars are as follows;

My Top 10 List

1)+/- 32 GTR-R's (real race cars with racing history)
2)2003 Competition Coupes (good racing history = more money)
3)3-96 White w/ Blue GTS'(all built for Chrysler employees)
4)100-'98 GT-2's, #52 will be worth some extra.
5)2-'97 Solid Blue Rt-10's w/ smoothie hood
6)3-'97 Red RT-10's with Tan interiors and Gold Wheels (maybe)
7)11-'98 Silver w/Blue stripes GTS's (done at factory)
8)+/- 258-'92 RT-10's and maybe early 93's follow the 92's
9)96-97 Blue w /white GTS'
10)2003 SRT-10

My opinion

Hey guys...don't forget the 1995 "Last 300 Side Exhaust" cars.

Of course, there isn't anything different other than pin stamping but it does make it special having one of the last 300 built with side exhaust and the final Gen1 cars.

I could be biased too since I own one.

The 96 pre-production 1 that got away IS the most
desirable viper!!!

Why?

It should not exist.

It should have gone to the crusher but got away! It was for sale a while back in the local paper. It is REAL with federal
emissions exempt stickers and everything.

This is not a urban legend! From what I understand 27 were made for pre-production testing purposes and all were to be crushed but one was not by a unscrupulous crusher employee.
The car ended up in Ohio under salvage title which was picked up by a local police officer who I last heard still has it under used car title here in NYS.
