Bob….This is a useless thread. You've been on the board for 14 years & you really need to know this information?

Hi Frank. Please take the sour grapes elsewhere. The data is not for me. I think it would be interesting for many to see how many actually use their cars in this way. I know that you do but not everyone does. Have a blessed Thanksgiving. BTW, its 13 years.

Interesting. I assume that some have track insurance or offroad vehicles that are track only. Perhaps we can read from them and the people who have done a track day or two or three. It seems like the more recent posters do not seem to be using the potential of the car.

We also have noticed this locally. Years back, many brought their Vipers to the strip or a road course. It seems like that activity has fallen off quite a bit with the newer owners. What do you think?

Can be in Western Miami-Dade County. Ever run over a python crossing Route 41 going from Miami to Naples?

I have tracked my ACR. It's why I bought it and what it was made for. Going on 4 weekends at TWS in Texas now. I buy track insurance when I do.

Bob,

I run an open-track/race club in California and yes, there is less vipers that it used to be 10 or more years ago. As a matter of facts, the few vipers that still came are, by a vast majority, Gen2 GTS. Why? no idea

Thank you for the post luc. It would be very interesting to know what the phenomenon is due to. It also means that SRT's marketing directed at "track rats" may be off base.

The VOIs attract less than ten percent of all Viper owners. Increasingly, it appears that Viper owners are not bringing their cars to road course days or the drag strip. That is what we have been experiencing locally. This Forum can lead one to a distorted view of what the average Viper owner does with his or her car because there are a disproportionate number of posters here that actually use the performance capability of their Vipers.

I can see it now VOI 14, Coffee & Cars:rolaugh::rolaugh:

regardless of the percentages of people tracking or drag racing their cars the fact of the matter is, at the past 5 VOI's that have occured and I attended while I have been a Viper owner, I have ALWAYS experienced excessive wait times while partaking of the drags and track events due to the numbers of people participating.

A VOI would not be a VOI without those events. A VOI without them would be a death knell in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong. I agree with you. I just hope that the trend I see does not continue to the point where not enough people who enjoy those activities are left to make a VOI successful.

The VCA better get some new regions up and running before the end of the year so people have a place to call home otherwise there isn't much to renew for...

One of the great highlights of VOI's is the chance for people that have never taken their Viper to a road course, oval, autocross or drag strip, to experience them in their own cars with skilled instuctors at their side.

To drive a Viper on a real race track is something that every Viper owner should have the chance to do, at least once. These cars were breed and constructed to excell on the track. Doing this, in a well controlled venue, is an eye opening experience, especially for someone new to their Vipers.

Due to the economy, many racers have had to scale back their track time, but that does not mean that owners do not appreciate the ultra high performance capabilities built into every production Viper.

I hope Bob's post encourages Viper owners to take advantage of track days offered by their regional clubs, and local open track events put on by independent time attack type organizations.

In addition, the SoCal VCA club puts on a fantastic Car Control Seminar where owners can learn how Vipers can be controlled when traction is used to the max.

10 years ago we would pack the drag strip for Viper vs Vette Wars and have plenty of Vipers at the road course days, these days it seems like all show n shine...

For the past two years, the local Vette club has invited our VCA SoCal club to join in them for a Vipers Vs Vette Autocross near Palm Springs. For both of these years we have brought out more Vipers than them, and cleaned their clocks. We took home the big trophy, and enjoyed the time spent with them. While they fielded some pretty well prepared and well driven Vettes, the SoCal Vipers still posted the fastest times.

A year ago we reached capacity for a Viper event at Willow Springs Raceway. It is an over 2 mile long, very high speed road course, with very technical corners, and is a hoot to drive. Ralph and Dick Winkles (engine development) also showed up with a couple Gen V Vipers for us to ride along and experience for ourselves just how well the new cars handled a road course. This resulted in several new cars being ordered, and got the region in the mood again for club track days.

I'm not saying I have.....but lets just say I guy who looks alot like me , in a car that looks alot like mine, has taken his car on many, many road courses many, many times, including 3 days on COTA back in February. And loved every minute of it!!!:drive:

And if you haven't, you have missed a truly remarkable experience of what this amazing car is capable of.

Nobody says you have to drive it like an idiot just because you put your car on a purpose built track under controlled conditions.
