If you don't mind, let me inject a post from an insurance company standpoint.....yes, I work for one.
First, if you're going to get a "specialty" or "collector" policy, you must read it very carefully. They are great to have, but the policy tends to be restrictive. It may say something like you will not get coverage if you drive the car to work. They mean it. Don't drive it to work. Remember, with these specialty policies, they're only charging $300,$400 or $500 per year and risking $100,000 or much more in return. So they'll be very restrictive in the risks they allow for. That's why with this Viper, at the moment, I have it insured with State Farm. It's a "standard" auto policy, which allows me to drive the car anywhere at any time. I've had collector policies in the past, and love them. They're terrific bargains. But I didn't want the restrictions that they have. Shop around. Get the best quote, and READ THE POLICY CAREFULLY!
There are several specialty companies out there. kcobean listed many of them. There's also Great American, American Collectors, and some others you can probably do a search on.
Also, be completely honest in your application. KepRight, purely as advise, if that's where you told the insurance company your car is garaged, please make sure that's exactly where it is garaged nightly. Unfortunately, there are lots of people who say they live or garage their car in a boonie or suburb to save money, but actually live and/or park the car somewhere else. That's insurance fraud. Insurance companies can and will deny a claim for that. Trust me on that...I spent several years as an insurance fraud investigator and I did many of these cases. Again, I have no knowledge of your situation KepRight, so don't take it the wrong way, I'm just giving advise because I'd hate to see anyone in a bad position.
If anyone has questions about how insurance companies work or general policies, I'm happy to help.
Steve
