I was curious why?????
if I was an option on mine I probably would have taken it!!
does DC want an extra $3000 from me?????
what is up?

Also what is a factory stripe? meaning does it have an "edge" or has it been clear coated so it is smooth with the car?
these are questions I was asked when shopping for stripes. the one good local shop wants $1800 for a set of black stripes clearcoated... but told him wasn't sure because I want what the factory would have gave me. he said a little less if no clearcoat and to get back to him.
thanks

factory stripes are clear-coated.

The RT/10 only had factory stripes in 2 years: 96 and 97

This is interesting, if the factory stripe is clear coated, why is the edge so high compared to the other color, I have painted a lot of cars, still have a vette with zl-1 stripe. The edge usually disappears when clearcoated. That is the purpose, to blend the levels of the two colors, you clear the whole hood or whatever body panels are involved. The stripe is always higher as it is applied over the other color. My GTS with factory stipe has a very prominent ridge, I remember talking with Bill Pemberton about another car w/o stripe I almost bought and they were going to stripe, and he mentioned that they would clearcoat and the ridge would dissapear. Is it possible that some of the older lumpys were clearcoated and not the newer ones. I can't see any value in just clear coating the stripe and leaving the ridge. Again, the value of clear coating would be to level the two surfaces for a smooth feel. Where am I wrong?

lee,
maybe they are just clearcoating the stripe????
just to protect the color?? so that it wouldnt be so easily
scratched off????? scratches on the stripe that would remove the color would be bad!!

Directly from ASC (the painter of our Vipers):

"The panels are completely painted with the base color and cleared, the stripe masking is then applied and the paint lightly scuffed (not to primer). The stripe only is then painted with the base color and cleared, after the baking process the stripe is lightly sanded with 2500 grit paper and polished."

Also according to ASC, Dodge wanted the stripe ridge and in fact specified the exact height of the ridge.

Looks pretty good to me....
