You would think a car 2 years old, with an even older design, who destroys the current 'RING' record would get some respect. Just read Motor Trends new issue on the best handling/driver cars....or whatever they called it.... At the end of the article they mention some new competitors for next year..they mention a camaro but not the new Viper?? What gives?? Instead of keeping the Gen V such a secret, maybe Chrysler/Dodge should start doing a little promoting for the new car!

I don't subscribe to any of the standard car magazines anymore because I simply don't believe they have journalistic integrity. I believe GM spends the most advertising dollars, so comparisons are skewed to help them, or whomever is paying the big dollars. (Honda, Toyota)

The authors and editors at the magazines won't give Dodge credit because the Viper isn't a current production model....and how embarassing is it for the remainder of the manufacturers that a pair of 18 month old models (although still New Stock) have obliterated heavily funded efforts to establish records and used questionably "stock" models. I heard rumors that the ZR1 used had come out of a dyno'd search to find the best of the ones surveyed, the Lexus LFA had a full cage which of course would make it corner a little better...but added some weight....unless they removed weight elsewhere.

The only way Dodge will get credit will be to take a 2013 Gen 5 Viper to the ring and obliterate their own record again....maybe even letting some magazine editor pick which Viper they yank off the line....which is ludicrous. Dodge has used independent timers, produced a video each time and even used limited time at the track to establish each ring record....if I wrote for a magazine I'd have happily written the story as a David vs. Goliath type article and hoped it didn't get me fired.

I think Dodge will mention some of the US-based track records established this year, plus the ring in their advertising next year, but I believe right now they are just promoting the SRT heritage in their other currently produced models.

It does surprise me greatly that Ferrari doesn't even bother with the ring...but I assure myself that if I ran Ferrari and had a 2 year waiting list for every single model I produced that there'd be no reason to even visit the ring except for press photos.

Regards,
Aaron

Yea ferrari dont care bout that old racin stuff. To me the viper never gets respect. Its a 90k car that simply destroys everything out their. Its produced in very low numbers and has 600 hp with a 10.9 quartermile and 130 mph trap speeds and a top speed of 202 mph. On top of all that its exterior is fully capable of being parked next to 200k cars and still holding its own.

What more does the car have to do? I see drones of corvette followers and legions of gtr fanboys but very litle support for the top six speed irs quarter mile contender and ring leader. Very little the stock ten second and laguana secca leader.

The viper has arguably held more records in the past 5 yeRs than any other car. Theirs so much loyalty to the zr1 and gtr who alwzys place second and third to the viper.

But then you here or read about how your 3400 pound viper is heavy and cant handle ect. I almost feel like no matter how many records tbe snake breaks the rest of the world dosent even notice?

ACR got a TON of "respect" and magazine coverage for quite a few months when it first came out, and when it set the 'Ring record. That red/black ACR was on the cover of just about every magazine on the shelf....when it was a current production car.

Viper production is over. No magazines care about past built vehicles, unless they are discussing classics. Even in those typical "10-Best" type articles, they tend to exclude models that were not refreshed for the current year, choosing only to compare newer models on the market.

But honestly, who gives a crap about what magazine writers think? Most of the ones I know drive ****box commuter cars and can't afford to own even a $50K car. They have nearly zero influence on my buying decisions.

+1 on what Nine Ball said, I have never been one to follow the herd, if I was in the herd then I would probably be driving a Vette right now. The Vette is a nice vehicle for those people that want a Vette, I didn't...... I have no regrets about my choice and will probably add another Viper to the garage sometime in the future..:)

The Viper is a brutal car compared to most these days, and has no aids to save sub-par drivers other than ABS. Until it goes into today's mainstream "softer" society, it will continue to get no respect. And I hope it continues to get no respect..... :)

I am with Mutt's statements above. I personally don't give a ____ about what others think, do, say or write. I have always been that way about the car I drive... Heck, I drove a Charger in HS when everyone else was ga-ga over the Trans Am and Camaro. Funny thing was hardly anyone would race my 440 magnum beast--wonder why???

I live in an area that is big on the Mustangs, Camaros, and Vettes. Some people don't even know the Viper exists--really! But I could not care less. This goes for my daily driver. Many people on this board would cringe at my daily driver... Fine. So what! Everyone just has to be happy with what they have and who cares about the rest.

Lemmings I tell you... Lemmings...

Car magazines are like politicians. They advance the agenda of the people funneling money to them. There are no advertising dollars being thrown around for Vipers these days... Besides it's a kit car with a truck engine...lol I swear no less than 5 people brought up the Bugatti Veyron when I started talking about the 2010 Viper taking the ring record. I told them that the Veyron runs a 7:40 vs the Viper 7:12 so light a cigar and wait for the Veyron while standing next to your ACR. I was in a huge Dodge dealership yesterday looking at Ram Trucks while sitting right next to a 2010 SSG/White ACR and 3 different Dodge salesman had no clue about the ring record.

The Viper scares bad drivers and punishes them. A buddy of mine who owns a 430 Scuderia were talking the other day. I asked him if he had seen the current Ring video of the Viper breaking the record. He said, "Yes, and did you see how hard the driver was working? My car becomes a subconscious experience to drive because it's so easy to handle." I had to chuckle a little bit at that because who wants to not think about the experience? In my opinion, this is what separates Viper drivers from most other exotic owners. I hope the Gen V keeps that raw, visceral, animal edge that Vipers thus far have had. Time will tell.

I hope so also. I have driven the 430 with paddle shifters and think it is a great car. But i believe areal sports car you have to shift yourself...clutch on the floor... I would get flamed from my ferrari/lambo friends for saying this. This is why i am holding out for the Gen V coupe. Anybody want to buy a low mileage '09 coupe...available this spring :)

Dang there is going to be a flood of Gen 4's on the market next year, that wont be good for Gen 4 values. Seems like every thread has someone thats going to sell their gen 4 soon to upgrade to a gen 5. Oh well just another reason to hold on to my Gen 4.

9-ball Tony is spot-on here..... why would the mags quote the hot-drivers for 2012, when they have not even seen, much less driven a Gen 5.

I truly wish SRT would release a Gen 5 RACE Version FIRST. It would not have to be federalized....crash-tested....over-engineered for the consumer. Down-N-Dirty race car. Make 25 RACE CARS like was done with ACR-x and Comp Coupes. Built off-line. Sell em to Dodge Viper Cup guys first. Bring em out in March '12 and RACE EM! At the same time the Gen 5 street car debuts in 2012 Spring shows. Let the media drive em, slaughtering EVERYTHING out there. Hold Another Celeb race?

Then EVERYONE will want the 2013 Gen 5, performance inspired by the RACE VERSION, instead of Visa-Versa.

In any case, SRT will earn the respect back again as soon as the media drives G5. Spies say there are mules driving Auburn Hills in pre-dawn hours.......

That's why I just sold my Gen 3 Copperhead coupe..I am sitting on the cash and ready to pounce on a gen V. If it does not do it for me (which I doubt) I will buy a gen 4 ACR I believe the Gen 3 will drop like a rock as soon as the gen V comes out, which is why I sold early and now viperless!:(

Not seeing the GEN III prices dropping much as they are already at the low point. Gen IV will continue to drop as all newer vehicles do. If the GEN V comes out and is the cats meow, then it will really take a chunk out of the GEN II GTS prices which have been very strong lately. The GEN V really takes a lot of styling cues from that old GTS. RT/10s are very low right now so I do not see them dropping much, maybe even gaining sum as there are no more of that style EVER.

As far as cars with no respect. I seem to hit them all in my mini collection. 06' Viper SRT-10 Coupe, 95' Saleen S351R Speedster, etc. I like cars that are as close to one off as you can get. Who wants to be that guy in his special car, just to pull up to a light to see another just like it beside you and two across the way along with two at each cross light. Vettes are vettes, after the 65'-67' models, the rest are just plain jane mass produced cars. Nothing really special!.

But I will tell you times are changing as I helped my 18 yr old nephew to find and acquire a great 95' Saleen S351 Convertible for mid teens. He loves the look but it is too rough riding, too loud, etc. for him. He would rather have some zipper drift car like a 350Z instead. ***!! For a lot of the kids today that is the kind of crap they want and it is coming from where, the media, video games, magazines, etc.

Where did all the real men go in America? Glad I am not a part of these newer generations. Bottomline is Viper gets respect from real enthusiats, not posers or wanna-bees, etc. It is the closest I could get to a modern day Shelby Cobra. That is what I wanted and that is want I got. Absolutley no complains and havign driven mine on the track at Miller during VOI11, I have nothing but respect for the car. Frankly until I did that little 15 minutes, I never really knew the car could be like that. Aretha is a signing away now!

Amen to that. My Viper has no cup holders, no glove compartment box, no GPS, no power seats, and none of that techie junk that when it is broke will cost you a fortune to repair. I love this car the way it is . Just pure brut power and awesome looks.
