I thought I read somewhere that the ZR-1 had shaved tires as well as some hot tuning of the car with race gas. I wish I could remember where I read that. Either way, great to see USA on top!

Yeah the wording makes it sound as if it was modified from stock when it was not just because of adjusting the adjustable shocks. That does need to change. If they are going to say semi wet conditions for the Zonda, they need to include the wet spots on the track when the ACR ran.

BTW- UNLIKE the ACR run, the ZR1 run was not witnessed by any third party. All the info supplied was by the factory reps.

Just got back from VOI, and there is a little more info on the "preparation time" for the ZR1 run at the ring. GM tested and tuned for more than 3 months prior to their "manufacturers" claimed timed run of 7:26+ that set the track record. The Viper guys just couldn't stand to hear of the bragging from the vette camp, and decided to do something to really see what the ACR could do at the RING. 2 ACR's were taken off the production line and trailered to NY for the trip by boat ($1,000 each) on the deck of a ship to Europe. When they arrived at the Ring, they rented the track for 4 hours at $1,000 an hour, and had to make their runs between rain storms, however the track was dry. Hired a driver who had never driven the car, and as you have seen on the video set the track record on the 3rd run by handing the ZR1 (factory tested and tuned, pure stock (yea RIGHT!)), its behind and dropping off the mail on the way by!!!! We have heard that GM spent a TON of money to get the "record" that was unwitnessed by anyone except their team. However, Motor Trend witnessed the ACR do its thing to the ZR1 with the driver hitting the rev limiter a LOT, missing gears, and still setting the course record. What the car is TRULY capable of is anyones guess, but it was said that the driver expects the car to run well into the low 7 and teens on the ring. He truly loved the car, and was really shocked at its capabilities! We need to thank Herb Helbig and all the guys who built this great car for a song compared to everyone else who showed up at the ring and got whipped! Cars that cost a $Million + getting beat by a few guys from the CAAP who took the ACR over with a mind to see what would happen when the ACR ran at the ring, and not knowing what would come about. We have a GREAT car.......we really need to appreciate our cars, and their exclusivity........truly a world ******.........thanks to good old AMERICAN ingenuity, and all those at the CAAP and the Viper design team!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!

Ken,

You took the words right out of my mouth. We do alot to all the guys over at CAAP, but more so, a car company who listens and takes our comments back to corporate and does something about it. There is NO OTHER car company what does this!!

The sickest part of the whole thing.....with just an exhaust and computer upgrade, you can gain another 100hp. Can't imagine how amazing this car would be with more hp.

Thank you Team SRT! Matt Bejnarowicz, Jeff Reese, & Mike Shinedling. All your work in developing the "EM-50" pays off with a Ring record and a car that makes Viper owners proud. And even though he's retired, you know there's Herb Helbig DNA in the ACR. Thanks Herb !
