I think I might have mis read that. Did you mean hood or trunk? I have 2 struts on my hatch glass and they go up as soon as its popped.

1,2,3,4,... struts will not LIFT an RT trunk lid.
I have one heavy duty strut and once you lift it past the balance point it pushes up, and stays up. I also have the Mopar spoiler.
Later, (sorry, not a red car)

When I first bought my GTS, I had to help the hatch up and only when it was all the way at the top would it stay up. After a year, it finally does not even stay up so I replaced both struts. Now when I pull the hatch release in the cockpit, it just pops open by itself.

Do you have any pictures of this setup?

I'm confused by the answers written. If 1 strut will only "push up" the trunk lid after it's lifted half way up, will adding a second strut add enough force to make the trunk lid begin "pushing up" at a significantly lower position? It would be nice to turn the trunk key (I don't have a remote release), lift up the lid just several inches (but not half way) and have the lid raise the rest of the way on its own.

City,
Let me try to explain the geometry, if I can:
When the trunk is closed, the strut is pointing down from the attachment point on the body (high point), to the attachment point on the trunk lid (low point), thus impossible to lift.
When the trunk is raised about 3-4 inches by hand, the strut is LEVEL, still impossible to lift.
When the trunk is raised to about have way as shown in my earlier post pictures, the strut will push the lid up and hold it up.
Now remember, I have the Mopar Spoiler on my trunk, which is quite heavy. How far the trunk would need to be raised before it would push up without the spoiler, I don't know, but from the geometry, it would definitely be greater than the 3-4 inches, which is the Level point, as mentioned above; my guess is 6 - 10 inches, for the mechanical advantage of the strut to over take the weight.

Now, if you were to install a basically straight push strut from the floor of the trunk, to basically push straight up, and compress completely when the trunk is closed, then maybe.
Also, there is no spring on the trunk lid hinges to help lift or hold it up.

I hope this helps.

Thaks Don (and BAZ) for the quick rendition of "Trunk Struts for Idiots"! LOL

Seems like without the spoile, 2 struts would make a significant difference. Cheap mods are always nice! :p
