Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

Here's the info on all 3 types of M/C's
Gen1 = bore & stroke (1.54 & 1.125)
Gen 2= bore & stroke (1.54 & 1.125)

Gen 3= bore & stroke (guess what? 1.54 & 1.125)so the only difference is the size of the res.
Non ABS= very small
ABS gen2=very large
ABS SRT =very,very large
all with a 65/35 split, and this is right out the manual.

Watch for new post Monday under New Products & Suppliers Special for pricing on bracket kits and options.

Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

Dave, do we have a typo somewhere:
Service manual says
Gen 1 & 2 bore is 27mm (1.063")
and stroke is 32.17mm (1.266")

Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

Hey Tom,
OOOP's Non abs cars are 1.063'x 1.266' and ABS Gen2 & Gen3 are the same
Page 5-8 in the manual is.
Bore and Stroke 39.0MM X28.57MM, or (1.54 in x 1.125 in)

same for the gen3 cars per The "Wizzard" out of the manual.

Thanks for the catch  )

My ooops, too, I said Gen 1 and 2 are same, when it is really Gen 1 and 2 non-ABS are the same. Now we know Gen 2 ABS and Gen 3 ABS are same. Cool.

Dave,

In all your brake testing did you ever experiment to see if wheel choice makes a difference in rotor temps?

So all your testing is done with the VR-1's? No testing with stock '02 wheels or with the Purners(?) in your thumbnail.

Still working on 02 18" and Purners, need to mount new rear brkts for fit. Every wheel is different on fit only, backspacing is the problem.

Should have final info on wheels shortly.

Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

I obviously was not clear in my post. Let me try again.

I have heard that different wheels "breathe" differently enough to influence rotor temps.

Based on your pictures and signature, I'm guessing you have a good variety of wheels; stock '02 wheels (slotted mags), Purners (mesh) and VR-1's (spokes). I was wondering if you found any differences in brake temps simply by switching wheels.

It's not a fit question, simply a case of whether different wheels help the brakes run cooler.

What are you going to be using this setup for? I didn't take any temps, when using larger rotors and bigger pads, temps will be cooler, than the stock gen2 junk. Gen2 stuff is way over used causing higher temps. These calipers and rotors are all OEM SRT's.

Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

I already have a big brake kit for occasional track use. I was simply wondering if switching away from my stock (2002) wheels would decrease my brake temperatures.

Do you have brake air deflectors? they help a lot, I'll have them under new products shortly too. Open wheels are better, if nothing else than look pretty  )

Let me know what you choose.

I have StopTech 14" Fronts, stock rears, BM3 pads, stock '02 wheels, stock tires, Cone cooling and deflectors.

Without measuring temps how can you say deflectors "help a lot"?

Dave if you need to test 2001 wheels for temperature we can set a date aside and you can use my wheels for testing on your car.
Just call me and let me know.
