Has anyone tried the replacements that are showing up? They call them slide clips.

My concern is that the replacement may not last either and at $55 a pop from one vendor, that's no bargain.

If I had the mill, I carve one out of aluminum.

Agree…I have the mill (Bridgeport) but haven't the need (yet) to fabricate one. So far, I was able to repair the one that split and reinstall the cable end on what remained. Yes…a billet one would be so slick and easy to make. Humm, might have a good product idea here!!!

Wow, those are sure close to the Viper ones. I'm betting they can be used.

Since they are for "ordinary" cars, they are cheaper and appear to be everywhere: http://www.amazon.com/RegulatorFix-Chrysler-Plymouth-MINIVAN-Regulator/dp/B00BT1GY8Q

Need to see if any auto parts carry it such as NAPA or Dorman, etc.

Hopefully they will work but they may not be much more robust. I know I was talking about some "tang" that could be bent to reduce some bottoming load on the clip, but I'll have to look at the mechanism to see what I was talking about.

Frankly, its surprising there are 2 such parts that are so similar. Didn't Dodge build the Viper out of as many existing parts as possible?

A brief description of the shape:

I should have the autopsy done today. Will report findings.

The shuttle is the same part used on the Dodge Caravan, the part I posted a link to will work perfectly.
I got my shuttle second hand from a Chrysler Voyager in a UK salvage yard. The regulator set up on the Voyagers / caravan is completely different to the Vipers but the shuttle is the same.

In the illustrated guides I did do a write up on the regulator, Problem was the host site where I had my pics shut down. I have now loaded the pics onto the members gallery, they should be back in the How To guide soon :)

See pics here (click on picture)

Hope this helps some of you out :)

Thanks very much for the confirmation! I immediately ordered a pair of those and will put them on the shelf for the day when I will need them :smirk:

Some updates to the How To Guide.

1. If your window does refuse to go up when you operate the switch, STOP immediately using the switch.
Reason : You will be chewing up the wires that are inside the regulator!

When I took my regulator out of the car I had to place the motor in a vice, drill off the rivet head holding the cable windings, then straighten the steel cables using a Butane blow torch with one end of the cable clamped in the vice and pulling on the other end.

My cables were really chewed up and I did not think this was going to work but 5 years on everything is still working fine.

2. If you do have to remove the cable winding cover (by drilling off the rivet head) you will need to drill a small hole in the end of steel rivet shaft, you then need a small self tapping screw, plenty of lube and gently cut a new thread into the end of the shaft.
I did not have a tap or dye set, I just used a couple of self tapping screws to cut a new thread, it worked for me.

3. When replacing the cables, I fitted the ends to the shuttle first then at the end of the slide arm is a black wheel, with an extra pair of hands and the motor being held in a vice I prised the cable back into the grove of the black wheel.
I will tell you now, those cables are very tight! this takes some effort and a few swear words!

If your confident at this stage you have the cables wound back correctly, you can put some power to the motor using a 12 volt battery and use the power of the motor to help you get the cable over the black end wheel. Remember, you must keep tension on the wires.

Check for smooth operation before placing regulator back in the car.

I just completed my repair using the $28 ppd shuttles for the Dodge Minivan as offered on eBay.

THEY ARE IDENTICAL !!!!!

Great deal.

(Also turned out my JB weld repair of my shuttle did not fail either (!), instead, it broke off one of the arms that hold it on the track.
