Some updates to the How To Guide.
1. If your window does refuse to go up when you operate the switch, STOP immediately using the switch.
Reason : You will be chewing up the wires that are inside the regulator!
When I took my regulator out of the car I had to place the motor in a vice, drill off the rivet head holding the cable windings, then straighten the steel cables using a Butane blow torch with one end of the cable clamped in the vice and pulling on the other end.
My cables were really chewed up and I did not think this was going to work but 5 years on everything is still working fine.
2. If you do have to remove the cable winding cover (by drilling off the rivet head) you will need to drill a small hole in the end of steel rivet shaft, you then need a small self tapping screw, plenty of lube and gently cut a new thread into the end of the shaft.
I did not have a tap or dye set, I just used a couple of self tapping screws to cut a new thread, it worked for me.
3. When replacing the cables, I fitted the ends to the shuttle first then at the end of the slide arm is a black wheel, with an extra pair of hands and the motor being held in a vice I prised the cable back into the grove of the black wheel.
I will tell you now, those cables are very tight! this takes some effort and a few swear words!
If your confident at this stage you have the cables wound back correctly, you can put some power to the motor using a 12 volt battery and use the power of the motor to help you get the cable over the black end wheel. Remember, you must keep tension on the wires.
Check for smooth operation before placing regulator back in the car.
