What is the secret to installing a new window regulator in the door. My 05 SRT passenger door regulator failed and because it was broke all to crap it came out easily. I have the new Regulator, but it sure beats the crap out of me on how to get it back in the door without breaking it or cutting the door. HELP PLEASE??????

I think it is a safety issue if your window stops working. Not sure if NHTSA would see it that way or not.

What ugly things can happen when these things fail?

Is NHTSA set up to react to such a low volume car, where 100 complaints would be 3-4% of the owners!

Be very careful as in my opinion - the install is where a good majority of these problems start. Definitely do not force it as you will crack or cause a pressure point in the tube leading to a crack in the not so distant future. Take your time and be nice and gentle. I can't recall if I had the rubber felts/weather stripping in place when I changed mine which may have allowed the forward mount to poke up thru the window opening which made it easier to get into place. Good luck.

Hi guys,

I had the same problem on my 06 vert. Until now I had to renew the passenger side. My driver side is next as it is starting to make some noises. What I did on the new passenger assembly is following:

1) I wrapped the plastic tubing in ductape so when it cracks it stays together.
2) the end of the plastic tubing that goes in the motor I glued completly with a strong POLYMAX kit so that the plastic tubing can't get out of the motor housing.

I use my windows frequently as here in Belgium the weather is not as sunny as in most parts of the US. When I drive with the top down I lower my windows. Since I did these preliminary fixes the passenger window orks like a charm and this for already 2 years. When I replace my driver side I will do the same and hope it stays good. I know it isn't the most elegant solution but it is inside the door so noone sees it and until someone finds a good solution for our problem I will keep it like that.

Regards from Belgium, Roland

I've said this before on this forum--If SRT wants me to lay out 120K to 140K for the Gen 5 fully equipped, then it better show a commitment to my Gen 3 and my Gen 4 in terms of bad design flaws. I'll be damned if I'll assume that there are no flaws that will show up on the new Gen 5--these flaws always develop as the car is used by the general public. If SRT refuses to take care of design problems with the Gen 3 and Gen 4, then I have to assume that they will react in the same way with the Gen 5. I will not drop the coin for a Gen 5 under these conditions---Dave

Agreed. It's not as if this design flaw just surfaced. Why not simply step up and fix it Dodge/SRT? It certainly implies that we original Viper purchasers are the forgotten ones.
Show US some loyalty - it's goes both ways.

Hell I'd be happy if they just made a unit that would last so I knew I only had to replace it once and not worry about it. I'd pay for it myself no problem.

SRT and Ralph are too busy ragging on pre Gen 5 Vipers and sending flags to current owners to step up to the table. Apparently the SRT solution is to buy the Gen 5.

The simple solution is to wrap the plastic tubing in a rubber hose and epoxy the crap out of the junction, BEFORE new units are installed, the problem is no dealer will oblige, they will bust the new unit during the replacement install and let it roll, until extended warranty runs out.

You are talking to the same folks who think SRT and Ram is a good marketing move. They are just plain disengaged from current owners and have no loyalty to keeping older cars in great shape. What do you expect from management folks who have just joined the team? They clearly don't know how important the replacement parts market is. Just my opinion.

Dave, I am extremely pi$$ed at these guys and I, like you will never ever think of spending any more of my hard earned money on any gen 5.....never until these guys step up to the plate and correct this well documented defect. My posts were 15 and 27 with complete details. Why I mention this is I cant believe how far this post has run. I called Dodge/SRT on their toll free complaint line and all I got was BS lip service which just ticked me off even more. I just got passed around from the gal who initially answered my call and actually was one of the complaints officers who didn't even have the foggiest idea of what I was talking about. Anyway I got passed on from one person to another and all that they ended up saying was to take it into a dealer.....and what pay for them to diagnose the problem....well hello Mcfly, we already know what the problem is!!! Nothing ever happened as I gave up. I also called the NHTSA and all they did was say call the 1-800 number so around and around I went. Pretty mich useless, inc ompetent people who cant do much of anything. Anyway, I'm out....just too frustrated. Take care.

My drivers do window sometimes doesnt come down when I open the door and therefor pulls out under the roof (sounds terrible), also sometimes when I go to close my door it doesnt go into the grove on the roof but rather on the outside of the roof almost as if its off a track somewhere. Is this a regulator issue also?

Turn ignition to on position. With the door closed, press window switch to fully open driver door window. Press window switch to fully close door window, release and then immediately hold switch in the up position for two seconds then release switch. Move to passenger seat and do the same thing.

Thought I read somewhere else it had to be done 3 times. What part of Durka Durkastan? N.E. for me 2 years ago.

An interesting update: Mopar is now showing the newest Viper window regulators for 2003 - 2013 model years with a substantial price reduction. For example, the previous list price for one side was $1215.00 - now list priced at just $365.00 (we have either side for below $300). While that doesn't necessarily correct the previous issues, it makes the fix a bit more palatable.

We will check to be sure, but often such a price difference indicates a different supplier. We ordered some of these to stock at that lowered price just in case the new price is temporary...

Better than paying the previous price I guess. Good thing I been waiting since last month for a fix. I'd rather pay under $300 than over $1000

While the Mopar system shows these part numbers for 2003-2013, there are two newer part versions (same numbers) listed for the actual 2013 model year but neither with stock or any in process. We recommend purchasing from your servicing Dodge/SRT dealer such as Woodhouse or Tomball, especially when they are doing the work on your car. If you don't have such a dealer handy, we ship worldwide:

hopefully this fixes it for all you guys.

Personally, I'd get on Twitter and Facebook and start asking SRT - directly - when they will step up to the plate and do the right thing.

I think this is great! They certainly are junk, but coming down 75% in price for a replacement seems pretty damn reasonable to me

I just placed an order for a set of these. The price may change tomorrow or with my luck, when I do need them, they won't be available. At this price I'm not taking any chances. Everyone says it's just a matter of time. My VCA discount did not apply. Not sure why. Maybe VPA can correct my total amount.
