Them and the recipients of the winks and nods are a joke now.
First off, I take exception to that statement in a big way. Implying that just because people were there is no reason to insult them. Granted, many fell under the spell of these DC/SRT gurus, but then that is how they got to where they are today (the gurus). Many of those same VCA officers reported back what little they heard in order to pass along the excitement of the time. Should they have held a meeting and said, "You ain't gonna believe this BS" instead?
And in order to show there are no hard feelings on the above "joke" reference, I will back you up 100% and distinctly remember the post and who posted it (not me). The quotes about "scaring small children" and the New York Auto Show are dead-on. Indeed, we were also told to keep an eye on the Daytona 500 - which has come and gone as well.
Now DC will get no quarter from me. On a scale of 1-10, with "10" being "WOW! The Viper is now the undisputed KING in every category!"; and "1" being "The Pontiac GTO was a better execution" - I am sitting at about a 6.8. Still on the Viper side, but not terribly excited about the future of the program. I take a little (very) comfort from the statement about the upcoming Coupe in the most recent VCA Notes that goes like this, "
Initially, the powertrain remains the same as the convertible." Thereby implying change in the future (as opposed to outright demise).
Give the car better performance and tweak the looks to become a true exotic once more. And back up the winks and nods with just a touch of substance.
