The charger I use connects to the earth post on the drivers sill and the positive connection under the hood, you can connect with the hood down. It works great and saves lots of hassle

I have the Battery Tender (available at Pep Boys, Griots, etc.) for around $60. There is a short cable which can be permanently attached to the underhood jumper posts, and with a couple of wire ties, the quick connect plug can be accessed by reaching in the rear side hood opening. I've used my Tender for a couple of years, and am very satisfied with it.

You do not want to use a battery charger or a trickle charger. As someone has already said, buy a Battery Tender. The unit will keep your battery charged and shut itself off each time the battery is fully charged. It'll cycle continuously during the winter months as your car is tucked away hiebernating. Have no fear, this is what you want.

I have a battery tender, and a battery maintainer. Save yourself a few bucks and buy the maintainer at Walmart for less than $20. Does teh same job. I made a cigarette lighter plug for mine, and now all I have to do is plug it into the cigar lighter. Works great.

I bought a couple of the Walmart variety for $20 and have used them on 3 different vehicles with very good results. As for starting the car--I don't think it a good idea unless you can take it on the road and get it up to operating temp. for 20 minutes or so. I don't think idling an engine to operating temp. does the job.

No..starting the car and just letting it idle for a bit is not good. you will cause condensation that you won't get rid of, like you would by driving the car, or letting it get up to operating temp. I would also recommend moving the car a bit so that all the parts get a chance to be resubmerged in lubricant...like the gears in the trans.

DCR GTS,
Battery tender is the way to go! I have installed over fifty of these units [92-01] and I have one on my 94.
EXIDE BATTERY TENDER #7001204
It will mount under the panel in front of Drivers door. Out of sight! Your Pos&Neg hook-ups are on that side and the 110 pig-tail comes out of opening with hood closed!
Plug it in and forget it!

1) PartsRack has two types of tenders for $59. The onboard, fuel/oil/spray resistant installed unit that stays with the car......and the Deltran unit that can go car-to-car.
Both have auto shut off, fully automatic float modes. [NEITHER are Exide ..... I'd appreciate your order, thanks.....]

2) Starting the car every 30 days MAY be a good idea, but only if you can get the oil up to operating temp to evaporate any moisture created. The plus side is lubricated seals, gaskets, and moving parts. The slight downside is a bit of impurities in the oil. I run mine to temp 1 x 3-4 weeks in winter months.

3) I much prefer the DelTran removable Tender.....the Exide mount-on makes the car "look like it has a problem" to the casual observer, and then cannot move car-to-car easily. But it is the cheapest.......we don't carry it. And there are $25 cheaper units elsewhere.......

DCR GTS,
I have the "imiTators" exide on my car now for ~ 1 year with no complaints. Chuck "Tatorized" it himself.
First class installation. Hidden from site and mind. The 110 plug is an easy reach in the side without opening the hood to plug or unplug. My brother-in-law recently couldn't believe how my car started right up before I told him about the tender.
Good luck
