Took the Viper out today and shot up to Long Island and came home. I got the worst gas mileage ever. I got about 150 miles on a tank and I was not driving out of the ordinary either. Gas prices go up and these are the results???? WHAT THE "H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS"!!!

Was 150 the miles before you repumped or was it when your car ran out? Maybe your guage is a bit off. I notice my gts fluxuates quite a bit. I can probably get 200 miles per tank, but I usually refuel after 150.

My GTS typically had over 6 Gallons still in the tank when the needle read empty.
How much did it take to fill up your "empty" tank.

Cruise = 16-20 mpg
Playing around = 16 mpg
Track = 2 mpg!

Your car may be running to rich. Your PCM may need to be reflashed. I also experienced real crappy mileage, but I had an 02 Sensor failure. Your PCM should throw a check engine light code if that was happening.

I usually fill up at 1/4 tank, and normally get about 220 miles or so between fills. This is on a s/c car, stock 3.07 gears though.

Welcome to my life Keith lol. Here's the tips I got from people when I posted about my gas mileage problem:

1. Check tire pressure
2. Replace O2 sensors
3. Have an induction service
4. Clean intake filters
5. Replace fuel filter
6. Check plugs and wires

The techs stay so busy at work (I work at a Mitsu. dealership), they havent had time to really do anything to mine. My plugs and wires have under 1,000 miles on them. The fuel filter was replaced 2 weeks ago, but I still seem to be having the same problem. I'm gonna clean the intake filters and check tire pressure today. The day I got the fuel filter replaced the owner saw my car in the shop and started b***ching that they should be working on customer's cars instead of employee's cars. Which makes sense, except the tech working on it was caught up and didnt have any opther cars to work on. Owner is a former Viper owner but obviously cares more about making $$ than helping out his employees. Man, I wish I really didnt need that paycheck and could quit lol

Wow! I get about 12-14 normally. On the track I can get 3 20 minute sessions in on a tank. That is around 5 mpg.

You want bad gas mileage? Try driving a 5,500# truck with a Viper engine.

You want really bad milages try driving a 5,500# truck with an iron viper engine AND 4x4... 275 miles to every 32 gallons fill-up and that is a very long term average... (230-250 when towing.)

At least its not 93oct...

O2 sensors are the first and foremost cause of bad MPG, but exactly how many gallons did you end up putting in? You could also have a confused gas gauge.

I get about a 185 miles per tank regular driving and that is filling up w/ 15.? gallons so I am very close to empty when I fill up but since gas stations are plentiful in the burbs of chicago (2 on most every corner) no real threat of going dry

My car gets about 5.6mpg with using a calculator to figure it out after filling it up :( I think I might have a slight fuel leak though

Glad to see mine is not that far off...Just purchaed the car about 3 weeks ago, haven't put too many miles on it, but yesterday (Easter) drove it down to South Jersey to see some family. Filled it up before I left - 225 miles round trip. Cruised mostly at 75-80mph, with a few throttle shots out of toll booths, etc...Came back with the gauge at just under 1/2 tank. Filled it up (~11 gallons) and checked the mileage - Got 19.9 MPG according to my calculations.

Sad thing is that with the exception of my motorcycles - this car appears to be the most economical vehicle I own!??!??!? Damn SUVs!

F355 - You may have had an "underpump" situation. If you filled in Jersey, most likely you did not pump the gas. The tank may not have been fully filled to start. The next pump may have had a lower threshold for sensing vapors and may have pumped all the way up and then some. If you did some calcs using this type of situation, you may have not had good mileage. If I were you, go with the obvious here before swapping parts out and the like. Do another tank fill, but then return to the same station, the same pump to get a more accurate reading on the actual gas used between fill-ups. Of course, you can check the tire pressure as that is quick and easy. Use Hess gas in your area as it is refined near you and is not a fly by night outfit.

I get 350 miles (not a typo) to a tank on the highway. That's driving @ 75mph in 6th with a very steady foot. I usually fill 16 gallons. But then my car is stock with original brakes and clutch. And most important of all, I don't rev everytime I see a stang or vette.

Keith, 150 miles with the NY crowd anywhere on LI is probably good. :D

That is exactly what I am doing now. Just wanted to see if it is a constant problem before switching parts.

If you want to improve the mileage without spending money on AEM etc - just get yourself a container of 100% acetone, a measuring container and a calculator. Add 0.2% by volume to each fill.

A lot of folk will jump up and down about this - especially those in the oil industry - you can safely ignore them. The only negative you could possibly have would be blocked fuel filters after a few miles because all the crap in your fuel system will begin to dissolve - so cahnge the filter before doing it, then every 1000 miles for the first 2000 miles. After that your mileage will go up even more and it'll run longer on less maintenance.

I've consistently improved factory OEM mileage and power on several cars and acetone is by far the best value for money single mod you can do. Works great in diesels as well - only reduce the ratio to 0.147% by volume....

at a fraction of 1% you cannot possibly hurt anything. This tip came from a chemical engineer who has been doing it for 30 years without a single problem - even on the old rubber fuel systems.

Why does it work? It changes the surface tension of the fuel. Smaller particles = cleaner more powerful burn and less burned out the pipe = less fuel to go same speed. NO down side except it takes longer to gas up as you have to run calculation and measure up etc.

My diesel went from 26mpg best ever to 32.5mpg on acetone once the carbon cleaned out (took 2000 miles) but the power increase was on first tank and noticeable, picking up 5mph over my measured test spot.

If you listen to the debunkers you'll have to be happy to stick with what you have lol

I think this only works where the water spins backwards down the toilet bowl...
