98 GTS, 4000 miles. Silver with blue stripes. $56,000.

The problem is the warranty expired, and the only way to buy an extended 7/50 mi. is if you buy the car through a dealer.

My questions are the following:

Would anybody buy this car with the exception of a dealer?
If you bought it, how much would you pay?
How much do you think he would get if he sold it to a dealer?
Can he buy an extended warranty after the original expired?

Thanks in advance, and have a great holiday!!!!!!

Add 4k and you can have your pick of 99/00 cars (maybe 01?) with warranties.

Any mods on the 98?

Too bad you don't like black!

Not for that price - back in June I got my 98 rt/10 (both tops) w/ under 5k miles for $55k and still under original warranty. Your car costs more and is without the warranty for about the same miles - ask Gerald about bargaining if you want the car at a more reasonable price ;)

I reallly don't that is a unreasonable ASKING price for a GTS. If was an RT/10, that might be on the high side.
If you can get that down to the high 40's low 50's , I personally would consider it. Remember, your '98 vs the '00's (?) have your forged pistons and lumpier cam also..

Good luck

-Yes people would, because normally you pay a bit less buying from an individual rather than a dealer. Plus you can talk to the owner and look at the service history. Something you may not be able to do from a dealer, depending on were he had the service work performed.

If you bought it, how much would you pay?
-Tough one, not $56k probably $52-53K There seems to be about $3-$4K difference per year from 96-00 all other things being equal.

How much do you think he would get if he sold it to a dealer?
-Maybe $45-48K but he would probably sell it on consignment rather than outright to a dealer

Can he buy an extended warranty after the original expired?
-I think the original owner can buy an extended warranty then it's transferable one time. So get him to buy the warranty then have it transferred to you when you buy it. I would want 50% of the cost for the warranty from you up front, and non refundable if you were to back out.

Good luck on your snake hunt!!

The extended warranty may or may not be a factor in your decision - they don't cover everything that the bumper-to-bumper warranty does so read the contract. As to the asking price, alot depends on the condition and service history. If the car was perfect, with total documentation, etc., then 56K is not an unreasonable starting point for negotiation - you could probably talk him down to 52-53 and the owner will take it. A GTS is generally worth a bit more than an RT/10 in a given model year, and though some people get fantastic deals here and there, I think that super-low prices are an exception rather than a rule.

Finally, Silver/Blue is a very rare combination, and (in my humble opinion, though I'm a bit biased) one of the nicest colors that Dodge ever used. As I recall there were 22 Silver/Blue cars built in 1998, so it's likely that you'd be the only guy in your Viper club with one.

I personally think the asking price is a fair one. If it is in as perfect shape as mine is I dont see why he would come down to 52-53k like some had said to offer him. It never hurts to make an offer but I'm not giving my car away for 52-53k and mine only has 4260 miles on it as well.. The color on the one you are looking at is awesome, so go look at the car if possible and make him a reasonable offer... GET A WARRANTY

Good Luck

The lack of warranty could actually be a good bargaining point - find out the cost of the warranty, and see if the seller will deduct that from his asking price. $56K with a warranty for a Silver/Blue 98 in good condition is a very fair price.

You CAN purchase a DC warranty for that car. A friend bought a 94 RT and bought the extended warranty from a local dealer without any problems. Check it out!!

Call Buhler Dodge and ask for Darren. See if they could sell you a warranty? Some dealers will and some won't. You may have to go with a warranty that is not issued by Chrysler?

I think that is a fair price....if the car is perfect.

I went through this warranty issue with my car. It was out of warranty and no dealer would sell me the extended factory warranty (they claim, too late, so sorry).

So I called Chrysler. They said "no problem". There is a $100 penalty per year if it was not purchased when new. They start the warranty from date of delivery.

I now have a factory extended 7/50 warranty.

It makes you think about how all this works. Can I buy insurance after an accident?? Or maybe an extended warranty after my motor blows...hmm??
